The Scarlet Thread

Though the first place in the Bible where the "scarlet thread" is actually mentioned is when it is tied around little Zarah's hand in Genesis 38:28, it probably can be said that the first place the "scarlet thread" actually appears is Genesis 3:21 where God "make(s) coats of skins" for the recently fallen Adam and Eve. The concept of the blood covenant is common to widely divergent cultures and tribes throughout history. Missionary David Livingstone contracted blood convenants with several different tribes in Africa in order to establish friendships with them. Fascinating!
