Human Repenting and Divine Relenting

In these verses we discover the heart of the Gospel - God's turning away his wrath against Nineveh based on their repentance. Verse 5 gives a summary of the response of the citizens of Nineveh – "They believed God". Verses 6-9 show us the comprehensive character of repentance, and how in mercy and compassion God relents of his judgment on the city. We will also seek a biblical answer to the question: does God change?
