The Principal Work of the Holy Spirit in Christians — 10

277

"Now we have received...the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God." 1 Corinthians 2:12

According to the Lord's own words in John 15:26 and 16:14, the central theme of the ministry of the Holy Spirit in the world is the Person and Work of Christ. Everything that He does relates directly to the revelation and glorification of Jesus Christ.

It should be no surprise, then, that His principle work in the lives of Christians is to do that very same thing. His chief work within the heart of every believer is to lead him into a full, experiential knowledge of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

To take Paul's words, He dwells in us in order to reveal to us "the things that are freely given to us by God."

This knowledge is absolutely foundational to the Christian's happiness and usefulness.
