The Pilgrim's Redemption by Grace and Rest in God (11th and 12th Songs of Ascents)
Series Psalms
After focusing on the judgment of the wickedness of others in the imprecatory Psalm 129, the Pilgrim next turns to conviction over and confession of his own sin in the penitential Psalm 130. Then, after experiencing redemption/restoration by grace in Psalm 130, the Pilgrim rests in God in a humble contentedness in Psalm 131.
Psalm 130 is its own "song of ascent" as it rises from the depths of despair over sin and guilt to the height of calling others to join in hoping in the merciful, redeeming God.
Psalm 131 reflects the resulting humbled, contented rest in God--and also ends with a calling others to join in hoping in the merciful, redeeming God.
