Mercy Surrounds the One Who Trusts in the Lord

If one were to ask the average "man on the street" what is the greatest need he has, or the greatest need humanity has, it is likely you would receive widely differing answers. Among those answers might be, "more money" or "greater acceptance and understanding" or "more happiness, love, and fulfilment." Though the answers would likely vary greatly, they probably would have a single commonality; forgiveness of sins and reconciliation with God would not be even considered. Yet, as the biblically oriented Christian knows, the reality is that without the forgiveness of sins and reconciliation with one's Creator, there is nothing one can possess in this world – material, emotional, or relational – which meets a fallen human's most desperate need. Psalm 32 is a very intense and personal contemplation of the significance of this truth. David's life was full of both trials and triumphs. He knew both persecutions and peace. He knew a close relationship with the Lord, and yet he also strayed far from that relationship at times. So, when David speaks of the blessing of forgiven sin, he speaks as both a fallen and sinful man as well as a Spirit-inspired prophet. – Pastor Schlegel
