Daniel Distinguished Himself (Dan 6:1-5)
Introduction
The more godless a society, the brighter shines the light of Christian character. And in the darkness of Babylon, Daniel was one of those who shall shine like the brightness in the firmament. But Jesus says that the light must be set on the stand and not hid under a bushel. Jesus says that the city, for it not to be hidden, needs to be set on a hill. Matthew 5:14 ff. The good works that we do need to become visible so that they give light to all who are in the house. Eric Liddel, for example, told the world that there was something more important than Olympic gold, and that is faithfulness to God. And as he was told, 'We need more muscular Christians, Eric.'

Doctrine
Daniel was such a man. Proverbs 22, “Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; He will not stand before unknown men” (Pr 22:29). And Christians need to 'distinguish themselves,' in part, because by doing so, we have opportunity to win honor for our savior and 'glorify our father which is in heaven.'

But now, as the pamplet says, 'We're second rate or third rate, and we know it.' And so does everyone else. People no longer assume that Christians are generous, intelligent, conscientious, diligent, excellent servants of the Lord. We do not distinguish ourselves. Paul says, 'Whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men… for you serve the Lord Christ” (Col 3:23).
