Why Baptize? Never Salvific
Series John Study
This sermon answers Acts 2:38 baptism.
When the priests and Levites asked John who he was, the greatest man born among women did not answer the question by telling them of his own greatness. John did not extol all his wonderful virtues or his boldness to stand up to the king. He simply said I am the voice of ONE speaking for God.
Isaiah is a picture of the Bible in the Bible with 66 chapters of Isaiah matching the 66 books of the Bible.
Isaiah 40:3 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
LOOK AT ISAIAH's PATTERN
John 1:24 And they which were sent were of the Pharisees. 25 And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet?
This question should seem odd question because Elias and Moses did not baptize. Jesus did not personally baptize, so why are the Pharisees asking John about baptism? They are questioning him to find out by what authority, decree or instruction he was doing this thing. John then explains that his water baptism is meant to point people to one greater than himself. Water baptism always points people to Christ.
