1 God is Spirit

Emotions change, cultural values change and thus self-image changes, BUT TRUTH does not change, and therefore GOD does not change. The GOD of the Bible is the God of today. We must know about Him, if we are to know Him. I an beginning with this question of What is God, not simply because it is a question from the Shorter Catechism, but also because it directs us to the essence of God. If you don't know what God is ontologically, in His being, then you will not know WHO He is or relate to Him rightly. If we are to relate to God rightly, we have to know Him. And this is where Jesus takes the woman at the well in our passage. Jesus doesn't say God is love ad you have to know that to worship Him correctly, even though that is also true. Jesus says God is Spirit, and those that worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and Truth. The distinction that Jesus is making is not that God is one Spirit amongst many, but that his Being is Spirit.
