The Lord made me to be a teacher. I came alive, come alive in the classroom. And especially with the five graders. If I am able to explain the things so that a fifth grader understands me, I am good. It's a good teacher. And I tell you, if a fifth grader understands me, a member of the Academy of Sciences understands me too. Well, I was interested to see what happens with education under President Trump. He appointed Secretary of Education a lady whose name was Betty DeVos. Betty DeVos had a goal, bless her soul. Her goal was to bring the kingdom of God in the American public schools. to bring the kingdom of God in the American public schools. What a goal. I followed very closely. She didn't say much because she had to study how on earth Could she liberate the teaching system, the education system, from the clutches of the trade union of the teachers? The strongest trade union in America. It's so entrenched in the legal system that I wonder, how could she do it? Well, she studied for four years. She came with the formula And the formula was, I have to take the teaching system from under the union of the teachers. How? I have to introduce the following principle. The money for the teaching, every student in America, should be given not to the school. It should be given to the parents in a voucher. you calculate how much is the cost of a child of the fifth grade, say, it may be $5,000 per year. Well, we give that money in a voucher to the parent, and the parent should look around and see which school she or he or both of them would take their child to. The money should follow the child. That's the principle. Now, you know what happens If all the parents take their children to the best private schools, the state schools will remain empty, and they should remain empty. You ruin The poor schools, the schools with teachers who are not capable to teach the children how to read and to write. Because there are schools where the students go to the 12th grade and graduate without being able to read and to write. Is it believable? It's fact. So they were waiting for Trump to get in the second term as president, and then the Congress was supposed to vote the law with this principle, the Supreme Court has already decided that if the parents decide to take the money to a Christian school, that's not supporting a religion. That's a parent's right to educate his child the way he or she wants. So the government money can go to support a religious school, if the parents so decide. It's already a fantastic gain. It came about two years ago through a major Supreme Court decision. But they needed a Congress decision to vote with the voucher system. It has to wait because clearly the present administration will not promote that. But put it down in your mind. It's the right of the parents to get the state money and then take them wherever they want in whichever school they want for their child to be educated. Now, I dare say another thing, and I never heard this proposal. Watch out this. Maybe you give it to a legislator in Washington, D.C. When we say homeschooling, we only think that the student should be educated by the parents. In actual fact, many parents employ professors of math or physics or chemistry for which they are not capable, so they pay a professor who will teach that subject. Now, what if 50 parents who have homeschooling decide to incorporate make a corporation of the parents who do homeschooling. And then have the right to employ professors so they can take the students to those professors. however they organize, but that moment, the parents can choose professors of their choice to educate their children. You realize the potential there. I only launched this suggestion. It could be a revolutionary, but it could be also one step in the right direction of destroying this huge class of professors with tenure You know, this law of tenure is one other creation of the American system. The professor will sit to an exam, have some duration to service, and then say, now you have tenure. Whatever you do, nobody can take you out of that job. Just imagine that in factories, you have the engineers with tenure. you paralyze the industry because there will be no improvement, no progress. But that's something that could be fought against and defeated through that taking the children out of the schools that do not produce. So, in a short, there are ways in which the American system could be totally revolutionized Maybe at least one person who will listen to my meditations will take this to heart and say, we have to follow up until all the American teaching system is open to the kingdom of God in the public schools. The goal of Betty DeVos, that should be the goal of all the Christian parents of America. Now, I was asked about children being sent to schools. I grew up in a communist country, and it was a European country, an Eastern Orthodox country, and my parents were A tiny minority of the Baptists called there the repenters in derision, mocking terms, pocaitu, the repenters. The parents had no choice but to send us to school. So, my parents told me, you are not of this world. They showed me what Jesus says, you are not of this world. you are from another world. If they mock you, if they revile you, if they beat you, rejoice. It was with that spirit that I went to school. So... When I was in the third grade, a priest came to teach us religion. And the other, the kids said, we have a pocaito here, a repenter. What? Sort of a leper. Come here. They went. He said, let me test you, make the sign of the cross. I put my hands at my back and I said, no sir, that's a sin. And he slapped me. That was my first religious experience. With Elizabeth, my wife, It was worse. She was the daughter of the Baptist minister. And right from the first grade, she was persecuted in every way imaginable. Always kept the lowest grades possible, just passing. Although she was so good that some professors asked her to explain the new lessons. Unbelievable. But they would grade her with a pass. And she got a beating when she was in the first grade. She had the same education. Her father would say, you are the king's daughter. Go with your head held high. You'll be proud that you belong to the king. It's all a question of attitude. Very interesting. When I came here, I heard that if the children are not accepted, they don't develop well. Well, we were never accepted. If I wanted to play football, soccer, the other children would throw me out. Pocahontas, you are out. And did I get depression for that? Did I not develop properly? I think I did. Now, again, the way our parents taught us made us capable to go through that system that didn't want us, but we went victorious. coming back to my dear wife. When I came back from Oxford, I told you already, I came with this new ministry, with new vision, and I started to train her on martyrdom. We are here and we may be killed, but that's a job that the Lord gives us. I send you a sheep in the midst of wolves. certainly are sent to death. What does he gain? Because certainly God doesn't send his children to die without very deep purposes. In my book, Suffering, Martyrdom, and Rewards in Heaven, I have in the last 14 pages, they were taken out and printed separately for some of the seminaries in the third world because on those pages, I show all the things that God achieves through our martyrdom. But you know what is the most important is not what God achieves through me and through my martyrdom, it's what he achieves in me. I become more and more like Jesus. That's the greatest achievement of martyrdom. Making me like my Lord. So, if he chooses that I go the way of martyrdom, he chooses the highest honor for me, giving me a chance to go all the way in my being like my Lord Jesus Christ. So I trained Elizabeth in this. And when she captured, when she understood She asked me to go with her on the knees, and she made a new dedication to the Lord in order to be a martyr if he chooses her for that. She had sleepless nights before that, and she would add, after that, I never had a sleepless night. She could be sound asleep knowing that our house is surrounded by secret police. So what? If they follow us, maybe shoot us, so what? we become totally like Jesus, don't we? And all the other great things that are achieved in us and through us with this fact that we accepted the possibility of being killed as the Lord was killed. Train your wife that way and then watch out because there was a time when the life became really tough for me and I was ready to give up. And she came like a lioness. Didn't you say you want to be a martyr? Now do it. It's a longer story, but they don't want to go into all that. She is telling it to the ladies. And so she put me to shame. She made me decide that I accept to die. I had to go to that secret police officer who threatened to kill me. I went to him and I said, sir, I will not quit preaching. I know you will kill me. but I want to tell you that I made ready to die. Literally, I made preparations for that. And I am ready now. Whenever you want to kill me, I am ready to go. I tell you this for one reason now. That man, who wanted to be seen as harsh and uncompromising, all of a sudden changed completely. Look to me with love, Mr. Zorn. Who talks about dying here? You will not. you go on preaching. Do you know from that day that man in a very high position became my defender there. Because the Lord said that he will transform your enemies and your friends. What I also found out with that occasion was that many people don't believe in Marxism, in communism. They fake it so that they have a good job. And that's what that man was doing. But the moment he saw me that I was ready to die for what I believed, he said, this man has to have it. And I will defend his right to preach. It's so beautiful to work with the Lord in that kind of situations where you see miracles of God that you could never see in other situation. Okay, now, the main point, train your wife, Share with her everything, everything. I made this rule with whatever new experience I had with the Lord, I share it with her. Enrich her first because the richer she is, the stronger she keeps me. I benefit if she is strong. Share everything with her. Help her grow spiritually. And it's amazing how much you profit Peter says, you husbands, behave with your wife wisely. She is a weaker vessel. but behave with her in such a way that your prayers are not hindered. You know, if I neglect her, or if I offend her, and then I went to talk with the Lord, my prayer don't reach Him. What happened, Lord? Elizabeth, she is crying in the kitchen. You offended her. Go first, reconcile her, and then come to talk to me. My prayers are hindered. My fellowship with the Lord is blocked because I didn't behave wisely with my wife. Mark this in 1 Peter chapter 3, I think. Anywhere, it's in that area. Chapter three. Okay. First Peter. Thank you, Travis. Okay. It's in my interest that I keep my wife rich spiritually. So not only in the area of martyrdom, in every area. Share with her everything you have, sweetest, dearest, as experienced with the Lord. Train her, and you will see how rich you become. It's in your interest. And you see, when I will go to the judgment seat of Christ, The first thing there will be that the Lord will put Elizabeth there and say, let me see what you produced out of her. But then, he will take my daughter, Dorothy. We only have one daughter. How long time did you spend with her? What did you put in her? What character did you put in her? I see your value in her character. You know something very interesting. In 1990, when communism collapsed, we immediately went back to Romania, and I started my work there. Dorothy was in the 12th grade, just finishing the high school. in the Christian High School in Wheaton, Illinois. And I took her and I thought I would put her in the Romanian school. To my surprise, a friend of mine, a teacher of math and physics, and he said, Joseph, the physics this girl has learned is the ninth grade, the second trimester. That's her level. She cannot fit here. She is too low. And then, of course, Romanian language and literature. Don't try. You cannot accommodate her here. So what's the solution? And they made investigation and they told me, do some homeschooling for a few weeks and then send her back. And we had to send her to some friends and she had to attend and finish high school there. Now listen. I had a rule. Those years when I lived in Wheaton, Illinois, and I was traveling for the mission, My rule was that wherever I was in the world, every evening, I would give a call to Elizabeth and to Dorothy to talk with them and pray with them. And the mission paid that call. Now, from Romania, I kept the rule. What I didn't know was that the telephone girls, they were used to listen for the secret police. There was no more secret police, but they still listened to my telephones. And they were telling everybody what a wonderful father I was, because I was talking so wonderfully with my daughter. So, I was a witness for the Lord even in that way. How long do you spend, how time, what time do you spend with your child? You know, on that phone call, we were discussing theory of evolution, for example, because some of the professors at Wheaton College, Christian College, were Darwinists. Wow. Take care. of what goes in the mind of your child even in a Christian school. So you have to be always there. I would ask Dorothy what your colleagues talk about in and she would tell me what the other girls were talking. Very worldly things in a Christian school. And they were daughters of Christian parents. Whoa, whoa. So at the judgment seat of Christ, I will have to give an account of everything I put in my daughter. I am very proud today of her ministry. Happily married. Her husband was an anesthesiologist. also became a pastor. He's both anesthesiologist and a pastor. I tease him because he puts people to sleep both to her and Gigi.
