It's recording Goss will look 20 in verse number 9 20th chapter in verse number 9 We're talking about some vicious rats here Some people that have called fire down upon their own heads and damnation upon themselves From verses 1 to 8 they were trying to entrap Jesus the Jewish leaders and he They asked him a question for what authority do you do all the miracles you do and he said well I'll you ask enter me a question and I'll tell you and By what authority did John the Baptist come baptizing out of heaven or from mankind? And they debated among themselves, and they said, well, now, if we say from mankind, they will kill us. They will stone us, because they take him to be a prophet. But if we say from God, he'll say, why didn't you listen to him then? So they said, we do not know. They lied, because they knew. And now, Jesus is going to tell a story about those boys. story that will enrage them and It should have convicted them of sin righteous and judgment to come we talked about this morning about repentance and faith and conversion We talked about holiness of life and Basically following the Lord when we know to do that These people were not going to do that. They knew who Christ was They knew where he was to be born and when he was supposed to be born, but they did not want him They did not want this Christ Now 20 in verse 9 we'll start off here and read it from the Greek Exato de pros ton lo on Lagane tain para belain Tauta Anthropos, Thys Iphituson, Ampelona, Kai Exedoto, Aoto Gergoes, Kai Apedemason, Kronus Hekanus, And he began to the people to say the parable this. Remember what a parable is? This is where you throw something physical down beside something spiritual so you can understand it better. Or God was hiding it from these people, one or the other. Then it says a certain man, he planted the vineyard and he leased it out Sharecroppers farmers actually, it's watchers They supposed to bet should have been watching out for his property It's a gallery go ace that means watchers people that watch Like a watchman. I like a soldier on guard duty brother Roger a Soldier on guard duty waters. What are his orders brother Roger? I? Say alert to everything that happens report it now. That's the same thing that happened here That's what they were supposed to do their watchers their watchmen their own guard and He went away a long for a long period of time considerable Now Isaiah 5 1 through 7 talks about a parable like this also and This parable depicts how God had placed Israel in the world as an administrator of his earthly kingdom. They refused to recognize God's authority over their lives and refused to tithe and to rest the land between the Sabbath years. When God sent prophets to prophesy against them, they would kill and mistreat them They did Israel's Jeremiah Isaiah and Jeremiah and many more finally God sent his own son and they crucified and Framed him and murdered him God called out a new administrator in his in this kingdom of him's on earth and cast easier Israel completely out of the vineyard altogether and That's what the story is all about and they don't want to hear it Chi Cairo a pestle in prose twos go or goose New lawn, Hena a po to carpool to on pill low nose Do Susan alto ho a day Gather go a X a pestle on Alton de Rontes, you know And in the season And in the season now that word Cairo there is locative singular It says isn't season and during the season he sent toward the ones watchers watchmen guarders Tenants sharecroppers the slaves his slave, in order that from the fruit of the vineyard they might give to him. And having seen him, the one's sharecroppers, watchmen, Brother Roger, what would happen to a man that did this in the army? How about a general? They kept sending men to him. He kept killing them, beating them up, and sending them away when they were going to give him no orders. There would be a force sent. There would be what? A force. A group of men. A force was sent to him. And they would take him and arrest him. They would be arrested. I'm going to tell you something. God arrested this bunch. But they're going to do more bad deeds first. these watchers or sharecroppers they kept on debating to one another saying this one he is the heir this is now the owner let us kill him in order that to us it may become the inheritance likewise Israel killed God's only son to keep hold on to their religion and their political system, that it evolved into a man-made religion instead of God's institution, that Moses had received from the very hand of the Almighty God. God's institution pointed to the coming one as the culmination of the true promises of God from Genesis 315 onward. Kayak Bolon toes How tone XO to Apollon O's? And they kept on seeking, the one's scribes and the one's chief priests, to throw upon him the hands in this very hour, but they were called to fear and shake for the people they knew, because To them he spoke the parable this. Let's go back and read this now, from verse 9 onward. These people are vicious rats. They're vicious. And they began to relate to the people this parable. This story to figuratively portray what he had to say, a man planted a vineyard and leased it out to some vine dressers and went into another country for a far and long stay. Now Isaiah 5, 1-7 is a parable of this very source. And they knew about it, they had commentaries on it in the Mishnah and the Talmud. And when the right season came, he sent a bond servant to the tenants that they might give to his part of the fruit of the vineyard. But the tenants beat, thrashed him and sent him away empty-handed. And he sent still another servant. They also thrashed and dishonored and insulted him and disgracefully sent him away empty-handed. And he sent yet a third ambassador, this one they wounded and threw out of the vineyard. Then the owner of the vineyard said, what shall I do? Shall I send my beloved son? It is probable that they will respect him. Who's he talking about? Who's speaking? Who is speaking? Jesus. Jesus is speaking. Who's he speaking to? Israel and all the disciples around him. What's the subject? The subject is the disloyalty and the murderous intent of these snakes that he's dealing with. When you walk through a snake pit, you may get bit. And Jesus was walking through a den of snakes. I remember one time, a long time ago, up on Greenhorn Mountain, where I took you down there, Marilyn. I believe we went all the way down that road one time. And I might have stopped at a cave. And at this cave, it stunk really bad. This cave smelled horrible because it was full of rattlesnakes. The stench of them. Rattlesnakes stink. I took her to that place, and I told her, I said, now, you don't want to go in here, but they say there's gold back there. But nobody wants to go into that cave where those rattlesnakes are. Well, Jesus walked right into the den of snakes, right into the wolf's den, right into the bear's den, the cave of the bear, the vicious ones. And it says here, maybe if I send my son, my beloved son, for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in him shall not perish but have everlasting life. For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world was already condemned. And they chose darkness rather than light, because their sins were evil. to convince these people that they were sinners. God sends forth his spirit in our lives, in our hearts. He sends forth his spirit to every man in the world. I taught about this this morning on systematic theology. And the spirit of God convicts man of sin, righteousness, and judgment to come. And at one instance, when a person homologia, when he confesses what he knows that he is, that he's a sinner, God sends him forth faith and repentance. But these people would not listen. They fought God. They fought the Spirit of God. They accused the Spirit of God of being the power of Beelzebub. And Jesus said, you will not be forgiven that. But when the tenants saw him, they agreed with themselves, saying, this is the heir. Let us kill him so that the inheritance that may be ours. They said of Jesus, the chief priest and the scribes, the Pharisees said of Jesus, he is going to take our religion away from us. All the people follow him. Let us kill him or we will lose our religion. We'll lose control of our religion. But who was he? Who was Jesus? He is the son of the Lord of the vineyard. They read this story in Isaiah, the 55th chapter. They read this story before. But yet, they didn't want to hear it. They did not want to hear it. Isaiah 5, 1 through 7, and they would not hear it. And they knew the story. Now Jesus is turning the story upon them. and drove him out of the vineyard and killed him. What then will the owner of the vineyard do to them, he asked them. He will come and utterly put an end to those tenants and will give the vineyard to others when they, the chief priests and the scribes and the elders heard this, they said, may it never be. May God never take from us that authority, that administration of his kingdom. How are you gonna stop it? And they looked at Jesus And he said what then is the meaning this that is written the very stone Which the builders rejected has become the chief stone of the corner. What stone is he talking about? The foundation stone the rock that followed Israel in the desert Psalm 118 the rock that followed Israel in the desert was that stone and Jesus said in Matthew the 16th chapter in verse 18 Peter you're a little stone Petros a little stone But upon this gigantic foundational stone, I shall be building my church and the gates of hell shall not wrestle her down He says here in verse number 18 Everyone who falls on that stone will be broken in pieces but I'm whomever it falls it will crush and grind him and Went on him and scattered him like dust Now did they repent did they get sorry for what they've done I Want to ask you something with Satan ever be sorry what he's done No, I said 14 is equal 28 revelation the 20th chapter tells us that Satan will not repent he will keep on rebellion against God and these people have the heart of Satan in them and Remember and we're gonna get to that later on when Pontius Pilate said I am innocent of this man's innocent man's blood They said what let his blood be upon us and our children and has it been oh Yeah, and they call for it didn't they they call fire down on their own heads. They call judgment down on their own heads And the scribes and the chief priests desired and and tried to find a way to arrest him at that very hour. But they were afraid of the people for they discern that he had related this parable against them. But they watched for an opportunity to ensnare him. and sent spies and pretended to be upright and honest and sincere that they might lay hold of something that he might say so as to turn him over to the control of the authority and the governor. The authority of the governor. Who was the governor? Who was the governor? Pontius Pilate. Now, I could go back and I could read Pontius Pilate's letter to you again, as I haven't. Time's passed. They sent spies. Let's read this again in Greek, in the 20th chapter. Having watched, or, kai paraterontes, hapalaine, ekathotos, hipo, krinomonos, iaotos, dekaios, ene, hina, Having watched carefully and intently to ambush, having Watched with intent to ambush. Remember when Jesus talked about the man that went down, the priest that went down to Jericho and he was ambushed? These are the type of people, these are outlaws. They are pirates. And they sent spies. Pretending, actually what it is, is being hypocrites. Hypocritical spies. themselves righteous to be, in order that they might seize him upon anything to deliver him and hand him over to the ruler and to the authority of the governor. Pontius Pilate believed. They did not. Pontius Pilate was a heathen. Pontius Pilate was a Gentile. He was Spanish and Roman. Spanish and Italian. And he tells the story about having Jesus brought before him and having walked by as Jesus was preaching and teaching He said a sage I have never seen such a sage and a philosopher in all of the history of the world He said he's one of the greatest men that ever walked the earth if it's lawful if it is lawful to call him a man It's lawful to call him a man And he said, these people that are trying to seize control and hurt him and murder him would sell their own mothers for an advantage. He didn't have any respect for these people at all. What respect were they worthy of? What were these people? They're murderers. The commandments of God says, thou shall not keep on murdering. Thou shall not keep on stealing thou shall not keep on committing false evidence Perjury and yet they were doing all these things weren't they they were breaking all the commandments Thou shall not keep on lying and they kept on lying And Jesus wanted to give them eternal life And they chose not Let's go back and read John the third chapter just for a moment because this is it John chapter 3 This is a Nicodemus representing the whole Sanhedrin Verse number six. Verse number five, let's go back up to there. Jesus answered and said, and this is the Amplified Bible, I assure you, and most solemnly I tell you, except a man be born of water, even the spirit, he cannot ever enter into the kingdom of God. What is born of and from the flesh is flesh and of the physical world. and what is born of the Spirit is Spirit. Marvel not, and do not be surprised and astonished at my telling you you must be born from above. The wind blows and breathes where it will, and though you hear its sound, yet you never know, neither know where it comes or where it goes. So it is also with everyone who is born of the Spirit. Nicodemus answered by asking, how can all this be possible? And Jesus said, you are a teacher, a master teacher of Israel. You do not know nor understand these things. Why are they strange to you? I assure you and most solemnly I tell you, we speak only of what we know. Who's he talking about? The prophets and the church. And we know absolutely what we are talking about. We have actually seen what we are testifying to. We're eyewitnesses of it, and still you do not receive our testimony, and you reject and refuse our evidence, that of myself and all those who were born of the Spirit of God. If I have told you things that happen right here upon the earth, and yet you do not believe me, how can I tell you and trust you and get you to hear to me and rely upon me if I tell you heavenly things and yet no one has ever gone up to heaven but there is one who has come down from heaven the son of God or the son of man himself who is and dwells whose home is in heaven and just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert on a pole, so must it also be necessary that the Son of Man be lifted up on the cross. In order to that, everyone who believes in Him and cleaves to Him and trusts Him and relies upon Him may not perish but have everlasting life and live actually forever. For God so greatly loved and dearly prized the world that He even gave up his only begotten unique son so that everyone who believes and trusts in him and clings to him, relies upon him, shall not perish and come to destruction, but be lost, but have eternal everlasting life. For God did not send his son into the world in order to judge it, to reject it, or to condemn, or to pass sentence upon it, the world. but that the world might find salvation and be safe and sound through him. He who believes on him, who clings to and trusts and relies on him is not judged. He who trusts in him never comes up for judgment. For him there is no rejection, no condemnation. He incurs no damnation, but he who does not believe and cleave to and rely upon and trust in him is judged already, he has already been convicted, he has already received his sentence, because he has not believed on and trusted in the name of the only begotten Son of God, he is condemned for refusing to let his trust rest in Christ's name. On the basis of this judgment and indictment, The test by which men are judged on the ground of the sentence lies in this, that the light has come into the world and the people love darkness rather than and more than the light for their works and deed for evil. For every wrongdoer hates and loathes and detests the light and will not come out into the light but shrinks from it lest his works and his deeds and his activities and conduct be exposed and reproved. he who practice truth and does what is right comes out into the light so that his works may be plainly seen that to be what they are wrought with God divinely prompted and done with God's help and dependence upon him that's the story they wouldn't hear they wouldn't listen God does not wish for anyone to perish. But the doll come to repentance and saving faith. These people would not. They would not. Our Heavenly Father, we thank you for your word today. Father, forgive me more. I fail you help us to glorify you with our lives. Thank you for Brother Rogers here tonight and all of those out there. The Cowan brothers, Cedric and Eric back in Birmingham, Alabama, thank you for your prayers and your help so much. All of you out there all over the world that help us in prayers and financially, thank you so much for your help. Father, I ask you to bless all these people. I ask you to bless your word as it goes forth to convict sinners of sin, righteousness, and judgment to come. and to serve you the best they can, wherever they are. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.
