How to Face a Dangerous Future

91 ( 36 | 55 )

The turn of a calendar year has us thinking about time. We reflect on the past and consider the future. And this exercise can overwhelm us. We who can only be faithful in the moment can be frightened by the future. So many things could go wrong. There's no use pretending the future is safe. It isn't. Living in a world marred by sin is dangerous. Fear is natural. We live among evildoers intent on assailing God's people (2). Even those closest to you may forsake you. False witnesses may lie about you and threaten your safety. As a warrior David knew that quite literally an army may encamp against him and war would likely rise against him (3). Your "day of trouble" will look different than David's, but it is coming (5). Christians must have a realistic view of the brokenness of this world.

Christians must also face a dangerous future with courage and resolve. The tone of Psalm 27 is actually upbeat. The last verse is a call to strength and bravery. That's exactly what we need. But how do we get there?
