His host is the renowned international
speaker, Dr. Juan S. Bonstra. Today's message
is titled, Total Renovation, and is based on the biblical
words of Revelation 21.1. I saw a new heaven and a new
earth. There are many people who are
discontent with this present world and make great efforts
to compose it. You know that there is a need
to compose it, and there is a need to do something. Any general
look can give you enough reason to feel discontent, If you contemplate
the economic aspects, it is to assume that you see inexplicable
injustices, they are rich for others and poor in excess. If
you contemplate the social panorama, you realize inequalities and
discrimination, divorces and differences, families in danger
and children without love. And if you contemplate the political
world, you could probably speak of irregularities and concerns
that affect all levels of society. You know that there is a need
to compose this world. Many, fortunately, are doing
it. There are all kinds of philanthropists
and visionaries and volunteers who make priceless efforts to
compose this disconcerting world. Perhaps you have formed or are
part of one of those admirable efforts. There are groups of
people who, in some magnificent way, have come to understand
what charity is. They have convinced themselves
that they have a serious responsibility for the rest of humanity. They do all kinds of things,
all kinds of things, they start programs, and they draft projects,
and they raise money, and they sell raffles, and they create
organizations of social, global, and local assistance. It is that they want to compose
the world in which they live. There are much more violent movements
that many times adopt the adjective of revolutionaries who want to
compose the world. Even more, in these centuries
of massive and instantaneous communications, we hear and see
revolutions of all kinds and crusades and disturbances in
which the participants always intend to compose, improve, heal
the world in which they live. More than one government has
been involved in improvement plans for its entire citizenship. There are from time to time plans
called quinquennals, in which basic problems are sought to
be solved in the course of five years. Many people contribute
with their good will and their personal talents for the cause
of the improvement of neighborhoods, or cities, or marginalized ethnic
groups, or of elites, or of orphans. All this is done with the hope
and prayer that the world is renewed, fixed, improved. Triumphs are not as great as
efforts. The world is still decomposed
despite so much human effort. This can lead to pessimism, and
eventually to a spirit of failure. This would be a shame, and it
must be avoided from every point of view. It is for this reason
that the biblical message is a welcome breeze, an oasis in
the desert. God Himself has been very busy
with this world, which is, after all, His own creation. God also
knows that the total renovation of this world is not an easy
thing, something to be done in a matter of days, or weeks, or
months. God has been busy without interruption
in the renovation of this world. He does it mostly on a personal
level. Humans want to do things in sensational
terms, actions that deserve half-page headlines or television specials. God does His work as He wants
to do it in His sovereign designations. It is thus that from time immemorial
He has been involved in a plan of redemption, of salvation,
of liberation, of total renewal. His triumphs are magnificent,
and the rays of a final and glorious victory are already shining.
When man fell and began the process of deterioration and decay, God,
on His part, began His salvation program. He made promises, and
those who accepted those promises were made children of God. In
the letter to the Hebrews it is mentioned of many of these
heroes of faith, and it is said of them that, by faith they conquered
kingdoms, they did justice, they fulfilled promises, they covered
the mouths of lions, they put out impetuous fires, they avoided
the edge of a sword, they drew strength from weakness, they
became strong in battle, they put foreign armies on the run.
for faith. A man, a woman, a young man,
can become part of that powerful healing force that Jesus called
salt of the earth and light of the world. One day it is this
man, who all his life has done things without God and without
hope, God opens new horizons before Him and becomes a citizen
of the Kingdom of God. Tomorrow, it is this mother who
raised her children with the only passion of being rich one
day. Now, she has realized the magnitude
of her maternal task and prepares her children to be worthy representatives
of God in this world. Another day is a young university
student who aspires to occupy positions of responsibility and
from there to do good to humanity. But God has made him see that
nothing can be good if personal things with God are not arranged
first. Also, this young man is now part
of that Kingdom of God, which is the most healing element that
exists in the world. This is how God wants to arrange
the world. He goes to extremes to save his
own. Jesus Christ spoke one day about
this, and compared it to the shepherd who has a hundred sheep,
but has lost one. And there is only one, Mr. Shepherd! But God does not want to leave
a single one to be lost, so He locks up the ninety-nine in a
safe place, and goes out through ventriloquism and graves and
peaks and rivers, until He finds His lost sheep and reintegrates
it into His liberating armies. It is in this way, one by one,
that God is becoming a force that is genuine yeast. If you can be impartial, you
should calmly observe the healing influence that this Gospel of
Jesus has had everywhere. Those places where it has been
most practiced are the most enviable and most envied places by the
rest of humanity. has been a source of social improvement,
and political stability, and economic benefits, and stimulating
thought, and art, and progress. That people of God in the middle
of the world establishes, in principle, the Kingdom of God
on earth, and from that Kingdom come out into the world professionals,
accountants, housewives, writers, men and women of leadership,
conscious teachers, honest officials, inventors of new things. And
every day there are more people who surrender themselves to Jesus
as Savior and Lord, and every day there are more members of
the kingdom of God on earth, and each time that kingdom has
more and more influence in the world. They try to fix it. Many things straighten them out,
and many evils eliminate them, and many dreams fulfill them.
But the plan of God is not just one saved here and another there. God's plan is much broader. What he longs for is a total
renewal. That is the objective to which
he is directing all things. One of his apostles had the exceptional
privilege of being able to see the totality of human history,
from the beginning to the end. In the Book of Revelation, the
apostle John saw that in that Kingdom of God there were multitudes
that no one could count. They came from all the nations,
languages and lands of the planet. There they are, with palms in
their hands, singing the hymn of eternal victory. What a wonderful
picture, and so difficult to capture, in this environment
in which we live our struggles. But that is not all. The renewal
of God is total. It is not enough for some souls
here and others there. It is not enough for the healing
of a small human group here and another there. It is not enough
for a healing force in this region and in the other. What God longs
for is a total renewal. With that end, He continues to
carry His redemptive message to the ends of the earth. He
continues to send messengers who bring the good news all over
the world. God will continue to do His work. It is true that God could put
an end to this universal effort and close the last chapter of
history. He does not. says the apostle
Peter, but is patient with us, not wanting anyone to perish,
but that all may proceed to repentance. God is waiting for you to also
pass to that wonderful kingdom of God through Jesus Christ.
For this reason, follow the world, and follow history, and we will
continue to be salt of the earth and light of this world. No one
knows. Absolutely no one knows when.
One day God will put an end to His extraordinary work of renewing
His world. That will be the total renewal. The great apostle John saw that
renewed world. It is a wonderful world, a new
heaven and a new earth. Total renewal. Only one question
remains. Will you be in that new heaven
and that new earth?
