they're Philippians from Greek class, and we're doing this from Greek because that's the way it was written in the original language that the Bible was written in. In the Old Testament was Hebrew and some Chaldean, and in the New Testament is Greek. Some people say that some of the books were first written in Aramaic or Hebrew, and then they were translated into Greek, but my position is that probably all of them were written in Greek, period. The Gospel of John was written in perfect Greek, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd John, pretty much the same way. But the Book of Revelation is written in Greek, but it has so much Hebraisms in it that the grammar is not correct. And yet it is correct, because he's speaking from a Hebrew mind. And the vast part of that whole book is to the Hebrew people anyway. Now, the Book of Philippians, of course, Paul is the writer in it. It's one of the prison epistles. It's written to the church in Philippi, which is one of his favorite churches. Now, we went from 1-1, chapter 1, verse 1, through chapter 13. And he says that he has been able to preach to the whole Praetorian Guard. And he says that it's been manifested to him through Christ that his imprisonment is for the glory of God. Now we have a pretty good idea that he was imprisoned twice in Rome, and that he was released for a short while, and then he was captured again, arrested again, and then he was executed. Of course, wrongly, but... It happened. So was Peter. 1.14 now. Kai tus pleonas ton adelphon en Kyrio pepoi thotos tois desmios mu perisos soterus tomon aphobos ton logon Now, it says, and the majority. This means overflowing. This word, pleonos, means to overflow. There's a majority of the brothers, an overflowing amount of the brothers. This pleontes, ton adelphons. And the brother actually means from the same one, it comes from Alpha, on the front, which it means from, and Delphi, or Delpha, and that means from the same womb. And we are from the same womb because we are from the womb of God when we are born again, we are from Him, we are birthed from Him. That doesn't sound right, because it's Him, but we're birthed from Him. The majority of the brothers in the Lord, in the kurioh, in the Lord, this could be in Hebrew, Adonai, or Jehovah, having been confident, having been daring, pepoi thotos, that's accusative, plural, masculine, second perfect, participle active, having been caused to be daring, with confidence. We have confidence to speak. We have freedom of speech. In the bonds, and that's locative plural, in the bonds, locative plural, in the bonds of me, in the shackles, in the desmoys, the leg irons, the handcuffs, and he was chained between guards, in the praetorium guards, And he preached to them all the time, too, all the time they were chained together. Now, he said, many of their other brothers have become daring and more confident because of the bonds of me, because of my bonds, my shackles, more exceeding pariso terros, more exceedingly daring, that big long adverb there. That's a big adverb. more, exceedingly, overbound, overabundantly, bearing, exceedingly, to dare, that's tolman, tolman, that's a printed infected adjective that comes from tolmaol, that word, that means to dare, that means someone that just walks into the lion's den. You know, the Apostle Paul said that he had been subjected to wild beasts more than once. From what we understand, there were, if you read the history books that go all the way back into the first century, we find out that many Christians had been arrested. And they would starve these lions and tigers and bears They would starve these animals, and then they'd equip these Christians where they had blood running out of them, and they'd put them in time to pulse into the arena, in that great Colosseum in Rome. And they'd turn the beast loose on them, and they'd just go the other way. They wouldn't have anything to do with them. Paul, the apostle, said he had been exposed to these wild beasts. And they didn't bite him. They didn't eat him. They did. Many times they'd rip their guts out and eat them. But many times, by the power of God and by His mercy, He would just divert the animals away from them until they had finished their race. Fearlessly, they're to dare, fearlessly, aphobos, not fearing. Here we have another little adverb there, this fearlessly. By the way, if you look at that omega and sigma on the end of that, that usually tells you that it could be an adverb. Fearlessly, to daringly and fearlessly, the word to speak. Tone logon, lalein. Lalein comes from laleo, and it's present infinitive active. They had great confidence and fearlessly, because of what had happened to Paul, they probably saw him and maybe saw him or heard of him being thrown in the lion's den, basically. You know, Daniel in the lion's den in the Old Testament, the Lord protected him there. He protected the children in the fiery furnace. And God protected many of these people there. One in verse 15 now. Tenace, men, chi, dia. Fothanon, chi, eran. Tenace, de, chi, de. Odoceon, ton, criston, quresuson. Different reasons for preaching the gospel. Actually, it comes here from, it goes here from 115 through 18. That's the subject in here. different reasons for preaching the gospel. Psalm indeed, indeed is a little particle affirmation there, even here, this conjunction here is a cumulative particle here, or particle of affirmation, it's all on page 208, and then bea, that's a preposition, because of, fothonon. It means ardent desire. It means envy. It means to be jealous. All of that is in this word here. For envy, and, conjunction, or even here, for envy, even, wrongly. Erin. We get a word error from this one here. Erin, it means wrongly. Strife. For envy, even, strife. Some, but. Weak adversity, conjunctive particle there again, page 85. And then also here, we got Kyle here, and not one time has it really been a conjunction here. Well, it has up there. No, it hasn't either, because that one there was even. Throughout this sentence, and that's on page 208, you can look it up. And because of, via, goodwill. Some because of goodwill. Eudokion, something because of good judgment, goodwill, mercy, the Christ they preach. The Christ hates the third person plural present indicative active from Caruso. Caruso. There was a great opera singer one time, his name was Caruso. And he talked about a distant cousin of mine being the greatest singer in the world besides him. He said he was number one. Caruso said, I'm number one, he's number two. And remember who that was? Fatty Arbuckle, or Roscoe Arbuckle. My step-grandfather, great-grandfather, was Roscoe Russell. Roscoe Russell and Roscoe Arbuckle were first cousins by sisters. Caruso means a preach. Caruso. Preach. 116 now. Hoi man ex agapes, edotes hote eis apologeon tu yongaliu ke me. Here we have a little word man there, and man means basically indeed. Indeed, the ones out of love, out from love, that word ek there. X comes from ek. Out of love, akapes. The Apostle John talked about love, said God is love. John 3 16 he said for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believes in him should not perish But have everlasting life Love that word agapes there It means to love somebody Enough that you would give your life for them And I'm going to tell you something apostle Paul loved it He loved the Lord Jesus Christ. He loved lost humanity so much that he gave his life for them, didn't he? He gave his life, like Jesus gave his life for us. For God so loved the world. Paul so loved his own people and humanity that he gave his life that he would be a witness. And these words that he wrote are words of love. What were the ones out of love? Idolatres. And this is a nominally plural masculine perfect, participle, active, pause. Having been, having spiritually known. Comes from oida. To see with your mind's eye. And out of love, having known that, hote there, for, and look at that word for there now, that's a preposition, page 119. and this other one's 294, Hotei is, for defense, apo logia. Apo, that means from, and logia means to speak. And it means for defense. This is what we get our word apologetics is from this word here, apologetics, for the defense of the gospel. Tu yongliu, that's genitive singular, definite article, and genitive singular, Yuanga Leon. And then, I am set. I am set for myself. I am set for my own self, first person, singular, present, indicative, middle voice. Kaima. Come from kaimeo, to set. It means to set like a foundation. Set like a foundation. Now, here we have the differences in the text. And here we start only, we basically, 15 was part of, all different verses here were all part of one verse. They didn't know how to break it up. And so now we're in number 17, verse number 17. Hoide ex aritheas ton Christon karangalusin uk hagyos oy manoy kalipsin egeren tois desmios mu. Moreover, that little weak adversity of conjunctive particle there again, that one there at page 85, by the way, that little weak adversity of conjunctive particle. Moreover, the ones out of, that preposition there again, page 121, it comes from Eck, out of rivalry. Political enemies, that's what it really means, arethes. It means to spin, to weave, to argue, out of rivalry, out of political debates. It means also a hireling. A hireling. For money. In other words, out of rivalry, the Christ, they announce. They announce. Cataungaleo. They preach or announce. Adverb of negation there again, 294, not purely, sincerely, that word agnos, not unspotted, not without, without purity, let's put it that way, without purity, thanking for themselves, nomine plural, masculine, present participle, middle voice, thanking for themselves affliction, bitterness, tribulation, pressure to raise or to rise to the bonds of me. To raise tribulation and pressure to me. Some people are talking against Paul, even in his great pressure and tribulation in the bonds. We got people out there speaking against him. Well, the only reason why he's arrested and in prison is because he's a bad guy. He's a bad guy. Paul tells us in Romans the 13th chapter, if you're a bad guy, be afraid of the law. But if you're a good guy, don't be afraid of the law. And Paul was a good guy. 118 now. Ti-gar-plain-ho-te-pon-te-tro-po-e-te-pro-fai-son-pro-fai-say, that is, e-te-a-le-the-ah-cre-sto-s-ca-ta-ong-a-le-te-cai-en-tu-to-cai-ro-a-la-cai-ca-re-so-man-ai. For, here we start off with this casual particle. You can look that one up on page 75 in the Analytical Greek Lection or page 1190 in Robertson's Grammar. For what, little interrogative pronominal adjective there, for what, nevertheless, this word plain there, that's a little adverb, nevertheless, because of that every way, tropode, every pathway, whether, that's a little conditional particle there, correlative, ete, in pretense, that means for personal advantage. Some people preach for personal advantage. Or, or whether there, a little conditional particle, in truth, Look at that one. No shadows. Alatheos, that means no shadows. Everything that they say is in the light. Honestly, no shadow, no darkness, no advantage. Christ is preached. He is preached. Third person singing in the present, indicative, passive, voice. Christ, he is called to be preached, and in this I rejoice. I have happiness. Chi, conjunction. In, page 137 by the way, that word in there, in this little demonstrative pronoun there, in this locative singular, I rejoice. But, strong adversive conjunction there, page 15, but also, a little commutative particle there, I rejoice. Now let's go back and read this from the Amplified Bible, the last few verses that we've read, if I can find it here. Hopefully I've got it marked. I've got to go back one more page. Get the pages separated that is. Verse number 13, my imprisonment in the cause of Christ has become common knowledge throughout the whole Praetorian Imperial Guard and to everyone else. Because of my chains, seeing that I am well and that God is accomplishing great things, Most of the brothers have renewed confidence in the Lord and have more courage to speak the Word of God concerning salvation without fear of the consequences, saying that God can work His good in all circumstances, Romans 8 and 28 again, you know. Some, it is true, are actually preaching Christ out of envy and rivalry toward me. for no better reason than a competitive spirit or misguided ambition. But others out of goodwill and loyal spirit toward me, the latter preach Christ out of love, because they know that I have been put here by God on purpose for the defense of the gospel." Verse number 17, But the former preach Christ insincerely, out of selfish ambition, just self-promotion, thinking that they are causing me distress and my imprisonment. Isn't that terrible? Some people do that, don't they? What then does it matter, so long as envy As in every way, whether in pretense for self-promotion or in all honesty to spread the truth, Christ is being preached, and in this I rejoice. Yes, and I will rejoice later as well. Verse number 19 now. And that's where we'll end this message. We'll go on to another one. Paul wants Christ to be manifested through him. Oida gar hote tuto. Moi apobeiste eis soterion deates himon des semios cae epicoreias tu Nomatas a soo Krisu Now Paul quotes Job by the way in Job 13 and verse 16 Job 13 and verse 16 is he's quoting Job. He knows Job He knows of Job. That's the oldest book in the Bible. By the way, the book of Job is and It's older than the book of Genesis, even though Genesis' time goes back further, and John 1 and 1 go back further than Genesis 1 and 1. Oida, first person singular, perfect indicative active, I have known, for I have known that this, that this, this little, this thing, or this, of me, or to me, that is, dative singular, first person pronoun, shall result, it shall result for itself, that's middle voice there, Apo Veste, that comes from Apo and Bino, it shall result, and basically it means the lifting up, it means Apo and Bino, Bino means to carry, it means to carry up unto salvation, Ace, page 119, extension or limitation of authoritative verbal action. Salvation, soterion. The word soteriology means a study of salvation. And salvation through, preposition there, through of you, your prayers and petitions, you constantly making prayers, praying, and epichor regios, That means to supply, to pay expenses, to be benefactors of the spirit of Jesus Christ, of the pneumatos, genitive singular neuter, the spirit of Jesus Christ, the spirit of Jesus Christ. Let's go back now for just one moment to Romans 8 and 28, and we know that Romans 8 and 28 now has got a lot to do with The Book of Job also. Let's see if I can find it here in this Bible which I haven't used a lot yet. Romans 8 verse 28. I'll find it sooner or later. These little thin pagers are stuck together. We're going to go to verse number 26 in the Amplified Bible. In the same way, the Spirit comes to us and helps us in our weakness. We do not know what prayer to offer or how to offer it as we should, but the Spirit himself knows our need and at the right time intercedes on our behalf with sighs and groanings too deep for words to explain. for he searches out the hearts and knows what the mind of the spirit is because the spirit intercedes before God on behalf of God's people in accordance with God's will. And we know with great confidence that God who is deeply concerned about us calls it all things to work together as a plan for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his plans and purposes. According to his plans and purposes. We know that. God is able to cause all things to work for the good of them, that are the called, according to his eternal purpose and unpreventable progress. Our Father, we send this message out for your honor and for your glory. I hope it touches people's hearts and gives them confidence. I hope that it builds them up in your word. I pray for people out there that have sent notes in from all over the world and prayers and sometimes offerings. I thank you for those, and I ask you to watch after them and help them in their studies. Please forgive me for I fail you. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.
