Leprosy in Garments

25

After dealing with leprosy in people, God then gave commandments about dealing with leprosy in garments. It talks about leprosy in woolen or linen garments and mentions in the warp or in the woof nine times in thirteen verses. These are the only places in the bible that warp and woof are mentioned, so there is obvious significance. It also talks about leprosy in leather garments. The leprosy needs to be in the garment for the garment to be unclean and not just on the surface of the garment and it needs to be greenish or reddish. If the priest examines it and isolates it for seven days. If it spreads at all, the garment is to be burned with fire. If it does not spread, then it is to be washed and isolated again. If it has not spread, but it also has not faded, it is still unclean and is to be burned because the leprosy is still eating away even if it cannot be seen on the surface of the garment. If it has faded, then the part with the faded leprosy is to be torn out of the garment, but the rest of the garment can be saved. If we think of garments as representing deeds that are done, the order of dealing with it is contrary to what we would naturally think to do. If there is a problem, wash it and see if it comes back and if it does burn it, but God's way is to see if it will spread first and if it doesn't spread, then wash it to see if it can be removed.
