Well, I'm going to have you turn
to Genesis chapter 1 to begin with tonight. You have a handout
there in your prayer list and you can tell it's not very lengthy. And this is the extent of the
numbers with suggested significance that we're going to cover. Now,
there are some other numbers. In fact, I've given you some
help if you're interested in studying numbers and the significance
of them. There at the very end, I give
you where I got this study from. It's Biblical Mathematics by
Evangelist Ed F. Vallot. He's a Baptist evangelist
and author, and I've had this book in my possession for a long
time. And I've got another book that
was given to me, and I don't think this is on your I found
The Divine Design of Digits by J. Randy Bell. He's a Ph.D. and he also has good resources
as well. The Divine Design of Digits. But we dealt with the numbers
with obvious significance for seven weeks and here we are on
the eighth week, and we're gonna be taking a look. One of the
numbers we're gonna look at is eight, by the way. And it'll
be interesting, because this is new, what we're looking at,
and eight is new beginnings. But we're only gonna look at
this one week. We're not gonna have seven weeks of the numbers. We just wanna take a look at
these few numbers that we've got on our handout tonight. These
are numbers whose significance may be evidence from their association
with things or their textual order or placement, where they're
placed in scripture. We want to begin with number
four, and we did mention it a little bit when we were dealing in that
area of five and six. But four deals with creation,
earth, world, mankind, and those sort of things. used 305 times
in scripture. When you take a look at the number
four in the world, there are four points on the compass, north,
south, east, west. There are four seasons, spring,
summer, fall, winter. Four kingdoms, mineral, vegetable,
animal, and spiritual. Amen. But more importantly, we
want to look at four in the word. And we're going to begin with
Genesis 1.14. I didn't put this on your handout. You need to
write it in. It's on the very first one there. I don't know
how it got left off the handout. Sometimes these things happen.
Sometimes things get put in there that don't need to be in there,
and that's why you've got to scratch under one of them. You've got
to look things up again. It's like, that don't belong
there. And that happens even with your pastor. But we try to do the best we
can. But when we take a look at the
Word of God, number four is It's suggestive of creation, on the
fourth day of creation, the stars. When the Bible talks about the
stars, it's talking about all heavenly bodies, not stars as
the astronomers call stars today. Heavenly bodies. And they were
created to provide for lights, for signs, for seasons, and for
days and years upon the earth. Lights, signs, seasons, and for
days and years upon the earth. Look at verse number 14. And
let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day
from the night and let them be for signs and for seasons and
for days and for years. So you've got those four things
there. Then you have the four divisions
of the world. Flip a few pages over there to
Genesis chapter number 10 and verse number 5. Genesis chapter
number 10 and verse number 5. And it says there, by these were
the isles of the Gentiles divided in, notice these divisions here,
in their lands. Every one after his tongue, after
their families, and in their nations. So you divide it in
their lands, families, tongues, and nations. Then we know, we're
more familiar with Daniel. It's been a while since we studied
Daniel, but in Daniel chapter 2, Daniel is interpreting the
dream of Nebuchadnezzar. This dream that Nebuchadnezzar
had is kind of strange. You kind of wonder what he ate
that night. It had nothing to do with what
he ate. It had everything to do with God. revealing to him
some things and using Daniel to bring about what those things
meant. And what was revealed there in
Daniel chapter 2, I'm not going to turn there, but you've got
four Kingdoms, and we know the kingdoms. Daniel did not know the kingdoms
at that time. You'll not find Babylon, Medo-Persia,
Greece, and Rome. Babylon's the only one that's
identified, and we know that because he identified Nebuchadnezzar,
your kingdom. That's the very first one. It
was the very first. Then came the Medo-Persia Empire,
the Grecian Empire, and the Roman Empire. Then you have, look at
Matthew chapter number 13. Matthew chapter number 13. Matthew 13, we have our Lord
telling the parable of the sower. And in this parable, there are
four places that the word is sowed. And that makes sense.
And we see, look at verse number three. Matthew 13, verse three. And he spake many things of them
in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow, and
when he sowed, some seeds fell by the wayside. That was the
first place. And the fowls came and devoured
them up. Some fell upon stony places,
there's number two, where they had not much earth, and forthwith
they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth. When
the sun was up, they were scorched, and because they had no root,
they withered away. Some fell among thorns, and the
thorns sprung up and choked them. But other fell on to good ground,
there's the fourth one. You got Thorns, was number three.
You got to good grounds, number four. Brought forth fruit, some
an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, and some thirtyfold, who hath
ears to hear, let him hear. And when we sow forth the word,
guess what? That's that we have the same
four places that it's sown at. And you can see it very clearly
if you are aware of that very thing. We also know that the
four Gospels contain the declaration of God's love for the world.
It's all about Jesus. Jesus came into the world, Matthew,
Mark, Luke, and John, and it's all about God sending His Son
into the world for the purposes of providing salvation for the
world. So, again, the four deals with creation, earth, world,
and mankind. I've got two verses there. Jeremiah
49, 36 and Revelation 7, 1 talk about four winds from the four
quarters of heaven. And Jeremiah 49 and verse 36
and in Revelation 7, 1 talks about four angels standing on
the four corners of the earth. holding the four winds of the
earth. The wind should not blow on the earth, nor on the sea,
nor any trees. So, four is used a few times,
more than a few, 305 times in scripture. And we see some significance
there. I like number eight. In fact,
in my last church, we had gone through some trying times in
our building. where we were at. We had a two-story
building. It was an old building that had
been around for a good long time. The city sewer system backed
up into the downstairs area of the church. It just messed it
up. We had to vacate the building.
We had to go to a nearby town. Thankfully, it was during the
time when Christian schools were out. We were able to secure a
Christian school building to hold services in for a period
of three months while we were... My wife pretty much helped get
things... She had to direct a lot of the
workers that came in to get things lined up to get all that cleaned
up. It was a mess, is what I can
tell you. During that time that we were
in the... The other building, I preached
a series on new beginnings. That's what we really needed
was a new beginning, getting back into the church. That's
what AID is. I like it. It's new creation,
new beginnings. Eight in the world, think about
the eighth note of the musical scale is the same as the first
and starts the scale again. Do, re, mi, fa, so, la, ti, do,
do, okay. And you start it all over again,
so it's a new beginning. Eight in the word though. Eight
people began a new world order after the flood. And there's
some new beginnings right there. Amen? And we know the significance
of that in 1 Peter 3 verse 20. It says, Sometime were disobedient
when once the long-suffering of God waited in the days of
Noah, while the ark was preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls
were saved by water. Well, we know that water pushed
up that ark. I mean, there were eight people
that went into the ark. Mr. and Miss Noah. We don't know
what her name was, but Mr. and Miss Noah, and also the sons,
Ham, Shem, and Japheth, and their wives. So, eight souls. In fact, if you want to write
on there, 2 Peter 2.5, 2 Peter 2.5 actually calls Noah the eighth
person. That means he was the last one
on board. It says, Spare not the old world, but save Noah,
the eighth person, the preacher of righteousness, bringing in
the flood upon the world of the ungodly. So he was the last one
in there. And the Lord left the door open for a little while
and slammed the door shut. But he was the last one to board.
And so he was the eighth person. And this was a new beginning
for Noah. those that got on the ark. Another thing that was a little
bit earlier, the eighth time Noah's name is mentioned, it
is said that Noah walked with God. That was a new beginning
for him. Anytime somebody begins to walk
with God, it's a new beginning. It is. I remember when my walk
began. I hope that you remember when
your walk began. For me, it was February 17, 1971.
It saved a while. Praise God for that. Remember
that new beginning. Behold, if any man be in Christ,
he's a new creature. That's what Paul told the Corinthians. We need to have that new beginning
in our lives. We know that according to the
law, males were to be circumcised on the eighth day. The eighth
day. Now, when you consider this circumcision,
look at Romans chapter 2 with me, and we'll see where Paul
kind of draws a parallel between the circumcision and the new
birth here. So the time of the new birth,
when that child was circumcised on the eighth day, they were
under the covenant. It was a new beginning for them.
Look at Romans 2 verse number 28. And Paul has ears talking
to some Jews who were bragging about, well, you know, we're
Jews. We're not like those stinking
Gentiles you were just talking about. We're Jews. And he wanted to remind them
that it has to do with the heart. Notice verse 28 says, For he
is not a Jew which is one outwardly, neither is that circumcision
which is outward in the flesh, but he is a Jew which is one
inwardly, and circumcision is that of the heart and the spirit,
and not in the letter, whose praise is not of men, but of
God. So there's a parallel there. with the circumcision, it's a
type of the new birth. Then we know, we can read, I'm
not going to turn there for sake of time, but Aaron and his sons
were consecrated seven days, and then they began their ministry
on the eighth day. And you can put out there beside
Leviticus 8, 31 through 36, you put the first verse of the next
chapter, chapter 9, verse 1. That's the eighth day. That's
when they began to actually minister. But they were consecrated for
seven days, and they began their ministry on the eighth day. Then the Feast of Tabernacles
lasted for seven days, but on the eighth day, a holy convocation
was to be held according to Leviticus 23 and verse 36. Now, in our
Lord's conversation with Nicodemus about the new birth, it's kind
of interesting that the word born occurs eight times in John
chapter number three, verses one through eight. It's just
us. In our Lord's conversation with
the Samaritan woman about the living water, the word water
occurs eight times in John chapter 4 verses 4 through 15. Again,
it has to do with new beginnings. He was talking to her about a
new beginning. The Lord Jesus Christ was talking to Nicodemus
about a new beginning. Without that new beginning, without
being born again, you have no hope. There's no hope. Now, that's
the number eight, and then you got the number nine. It's the
number of fruitfulness. Look at Matthew chapter number
five. Matthew chapter number five, we have the Beatitudes. I think we're all familiar with
the Beatitudes, but there are nine of them. In Matthew five,
verse number three, Through 12, blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they that
mourn, for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek, for they
shall inherit the earth. Blessed are they which do hunger
and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled. Blessed
are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the
pure in heart, for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they shall be called the children of God. Blessed are
they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs
is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when men shall
revile you and persecute you and shall say all manner of evil
against you falsely for my sake. Rejoice and be exceeding glad,
for great is your reward in heaven, for so persecuted they the prophets
which were before you. The nine Beatitudes in the Sermon
on the Mount. Then you got the nine fruit of
the Spirit in Galatians 5.22. Love, joy, peace, long-suffering,
gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance. Amen? And
we know that that is a fruit that ought to, if we are filled
with the Spirit, that fruit will be manifested in our lives. It's
the Holy Spirit who manifests it. It's not us. He manifests
it through our lives. And then Paul mentions nine gifts
of the Spirit in 1 Corinthians 12 verses 8 through 10. I'm not going to take time to
turn there, but there are nine gifts of the Spirit. I do want
you to turn to Leviticus 25, and that's not in your notes
there, but I do want you to write it down because this is talking
about the number nine as well. We can see the fruitfulness here
in Leviticus 25. Leviticus 25 is talking about
verses 2-4 talking about when they would plant the land and
giving the land Sabbaths. Luke 25 verse 2, Speaking to
the children of Israel, saying to them, When ye come into the
land which I give you, then shall the land keep a Sabbath unto
the Lord. Notice here, it gets specific.
Six years shalt thou sow thy field, and six years thou shalt
prune thy vineyard, and gather in the fruit thereof. But in
the seventh year shall be a Sabbath of rest unto the land, a Sabbath
for the Lord. Thou shalt neither sow thy field
nor prune thy vineyard." Well, what are we going to do for that that year. And the next year,
the eighth year, you got to sow again. Notice verse number 20. Notice verse number 20. He says, and if ye shall say,
why shall we eat the seventh year? Behold, we shall not sow,
nor gather in our increase. He says, then I will command
my blessing upon you in the sixth year. What a blessing, amen.
If you determine that you're going to follow my law, if you're
going to do this, then I'll bless that six years. It shall bring
forth fruit for three years. You'll get enough in that six
years for number six, number seven, number eight, because
nine is when you'll get the fruitfulness back again. Fruitfulness. Look at verse 22. You shall sow the eighth year,
and you shall eat of the old fruit until the ninth year. Until
her fruits come in, you shall eat of the old store. The land
shall not be sold forever, for the land is mine, and ye are
strangers and sojourners with me." So we see there, the Lord
gives there the blessing, and He provides the fruitfulness
that is needed for the years that they were being obedient
to Him, and what a blessing that is. Now, there are some additional
numbers. that you may find others mentioning
as being significant in some way. But I want you to be cautious
as you study in this area. Check things out for yourself
and rely on the Holy Spirit to guide you. Does that make sense?
Never take something that's just written in a book and take it
at face value. You need to study for yourself.
While God gives clear indication that some numbers have significance,
there are some who do numerical, I could call them numerical gymnastics,
okay, to see significance in almost every number. So be very careful as you study.
And again, I've given you there the book that I use the most. I did use one that's not on there,
The Divine Design of Digits. It's in my notes here, but it
didn't have room enough to put it there on yours. But it'll
be on my notes online when I post this. If you want to go in there
and take a look at it. Well, that's our Bible study
for this evening. Let's pull back out our prayer
list. We'll pray for the needs that
we went over earlier. And we'll be dismissed with this
prayer.
