How Can This Be?

57

To confess to the deity of Christ is to confess to the virgin birth! But how can this be? That question was first voiced by Mary, and by many since. Many today believe that the only way this can be is if Mary was not a virgin but a sexually active teenager. But such a view defies the Scriptural record and denies the uniqueness of Christ! He would be called 'Jesus', 'Great", and the 'Son of the Most High'. As to His position, He will be given the throne of David and rule over the house of David forever. And as far as His personhood, He is God in the flesh-- God incarnate! Some believe that the virgin conception of Jesus was a freak of nature-- a case of parthenogenesis. But such would only prove that He was human, not divine. The only logical conclusion is that Jesus' conception was a non-repeatable miracle. All three members of the Godhead are involved. The Holy Spirit will come upon her; The Father will overshadow her, knitting the body of Jesus together in Mary's womb. And the result would be the birth of the Son of God, the second person of the Trinity. But it will take faith to believe which Mary had. Equally miraculous is the New Birth experienced by you and I. Nicodemus asked the same question, 'How can this be?' All three persons of the Godhead are involved in our "new birth'. God the Father planned it; God the Son provided it through His death on the cross; and God the Holy Spirit procures it by working in our hearts to draw us to Christ. But it also takes faith on our part to believe that God can do the impossible in saving us.
