Welcome to another message from the Gospel of Luke. We're in the 23rd chapter and verse number 47. Jesus has just deposited his spirit with the Father. He released his spirit. And one thing I said before, how can one who is immortal die? How can an immortal die? Jesus was immortal. He was not strangled in execution. He was not stoned in execution. He was not burned in execution. He was crucified in execution, and therefore he could dismiss his spirit when he wished. They did not kill Jesus. He suffered for our sins, but he released his spirit. The immortal God that was in a body chose to die for you and for me. How can a mortal die? The immortal died because of choice. And you have that choice also where you will die eternally, that second death, or where you believe unto life. Now, we have the Jews here all around him, the leaders of Israel. They were so happy that Jesus was dying on that cross. Come down if you're the son of God. What if he walked down off that cross in glory? But he couldn't have because he had to die for you and me. He would later on show himself in glory. It says to over 500 people, at one time. Matthew 23 and verse 47. No man had ever called God Father only Jesus. No man had ever called God Father only Jesus because he was his son. God through Jesus brought the far away God up there in the third heaven down to man to live and walk among mankind. John says in John 1 and 1, in beginning kept on being the God, the Jehovah. And the Jehovah kept on being an inseparable part of the Godhead. Because now I'm giving you my translation. And having seen the centurion, and this centurion means one over a thousand. The centurion, the thing having happened. And what had happened? Go back, and Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, Father, into your hands of you I place my spirit. And this thing he having said, he breathed out his last breath. He dismissed his spirit. Dismissed his spirit. And the Satyri, the thing having happened, he kept on glorifying the God, saying, continually saying, really, truly, absolutely, the man, this one, righteous, he kept on being. This man righteous, he kept on being. Verse number 47, at 48 that is. Tai pantes ho sim pa reg go menoy. How many people saw Jesus naked, dying on the cross, suffering? The word is crowds here, this means 10 to 20,000 people witnessed it. 10 to 20,000 people witnessed the death of Christ. Historians all over during this period of time, this was a big event. Historians from different Walks of Life commented about Jesus' birth, life, miraculous ministry, his death, burial, and resurrection. There is more evidence and history of Jesus having walked this earth than there is in the Bible. I'm not discounting the Bible because there's four Gospels that tells us that. And nearly every letter in the New Testament talks about the gospel of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The crowds, five, well, 10 to 20,000 people upon the spectacle. The theorion, the word theorion, our word theater comes from that word. This, and having beheld, as in a theater, the things having happened. Striking, leaving bruises, on the chest, they kept on returning. They kept on beating their chest. And all the ones known to him from afar, and women, the ones following after and with him from Galilee, seeing these things. 2350. By the way, the cross-reference to this, and this is talking about the burial of Jesus here, is in Matthew 27, 57-61, Mark 15, 42-47, and John 19, 38-42. I don't on their own Amati a soup. Now this man, by law, had to be related to Jesus because, first of all, if a man was crucified, they did not take his body down and bury it most of the time. They would take his body down and throw it in the garbage pit. the burial of an ass or a donkey or something, some unclean animal. They would go throw them out there and then they would burn the garbage pit so the flies would be discouraged. And yet there were still flies and maggots. But that's where this body would have gone. Jesus' body would have gone to the garbage pit. But this man risked his life to ask for the body of Jesus. And his name is Joseph the Counselor. and he kept on being a counselor. 2351, Houtos ouk ein, si ka ta tei thei menos. That's a long word. He continued not being agreed with the Sanhedrin. And with the action of them, from Armathea, the city of Judeus, who he kept on awaiting the kingdom of God. This man was looking forward to the kingdom of God. He was a believer. Jesus was the king of that kingdom. Verse 52. Jesus was embalmed twice, by the way. This one having approached Pilate, he begged for the body of Jesus. Now, go back to Pilate's letter. I believe Pilate's letter is as valid as anything in history. Pilate's letter was quoted all over in the circles during this period of time, the contemporary times. His letter was quoted all over. A lot of people say, oh, well, it's a false, a fake letter, but it was not. His letter was valid. Just check history. Check it out. He said that he was, Pilate was suffering from the decision he had to make to give Jesus unto these ungodly men and to have him crucified. He was suffering from this. He was weeping and he looked up and he saw an old man coming in. old man with tears streaming down his eyes. He said, you know what? He says, I'm a strong man. He said, I'm half Spanish and half Roman. And he said, I don't know what fear is, but the grief in my heart over this righteous man. And now I see this old man coming in with tears streaming down his face. He said, it breaks my heart to see an old man cry like that. And he was asking and begging for the body of Jesus. And I told him that we're fine. Take the body of Jesus. Jesus was embalmed twice. First hurriedly on Wednesday, and this was Wednesday. For Thursday was a feast day, so they couldn't do anything that. Friday morning, Thursday was a feast day and a special Sabbath. And then Friday morning, before the markets closed at 6 p.m., they went and got the spices and completely finished embalming Jesus. They thoroughly, more thoroughly embalmed him on Friday morning. before the markets close at 6 p.m. and this was the regular Sabbath. There were three Sabbaths this week. 53. and having taken down his body basically from the cross. They wrapped it in linen. This was a hurried burial. They only had three hours to do this. He died at 3 p.m. on the cross and this is Wednesday. The high Sabbath starts at 6 p.m. so they only had three hours altogether to do this. And he died on the cross. And how soon did Joseph get to Pontius Pilate? We do not know. Pontius Pilate said that he was really surprised that Jesus had died so quickly. And he asked one of his soldiers if it was so. And he said, yes, it is. So he gave permission to Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus to take that body down. And now hurriedly, probably no more than an hour and a half to two hours that they had to take that body and wrap it in linen and put it in the tomb and go. They could not be walking on the Sabbath. And the Sabbath began at 6 p.m. in Lemmon, and he placed him in the tomb, Hume. Now, this is a Hume tomb. They dug holes, they used natural caves to put people in. But this was not a natural cave. This was a carved tomb that a rich person would have had for his interment. A rich man's tomb carved out of solid rock. A carved tomb, a loxito. and when not, it kept on being no one yet, Lane. All right, what it says here is that no one had ever been entered into this rich man's tomb. 2354. And they, it continued to be a preparation of the Sabbath. It kept on coming up. Menemion, we get our word memory from that. We get our own memorial service from that. They beheld where they had laid him for a place to remember him. A place of remembering. As it was placed the body of him. Jesus had a body. And now we have a dead body. Jesus' dead body. Jesus did die on the cross of Calvary. Now, man is triune. He is body, soul, and spirit. Body, soul, and spirit. And mankind, when his body dies, his soul and spirit do not die. They leave that body there for a while. Until they are returned back together. Now we are up to the 24th chapter of the Gospel of Luke. Let's read this where we have been, from verse 47 onward, and then we'll start another message on 24 and verse 1. 47, now the centurion, having seen what had taken place, recognized God and thanked and praised him and said, indeed, without question, this man was upright, just, and innocent. And all the things that had gathered in all the throngs, the great clouds that had gathered to see this spectacle, when they saw what had taken place, returned to their homes beating their breasts. And all the acquaintance of Jesus and the women who had followed him from Galilee stood at a distance and watched the things that were happening. Now notice there was a man named Joseph from the Jewish town of Arimathea. He was a member of the council, the Sanhedrin, and a good, upright, advantageous man and righteous in right standing with God and man, who had not agreed with or assented to the purpose of the action of the others, the rest of the Sanhedrin. Remember, two men were on the Sanhedrin court, Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimathea. And evidently, both of these disagreed with what they did. So there was dissension. Now for capital punishment, they couldn't have any dissension. But they did what they were going to do anyway. And he was expecting waiting for the kingdom of God. This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. And he took it down and rolled it up in a linen cloth for swarthing dead bodies. had laid him in a rock-hewn tomb where no one had yet been laid. It was the day of preparation for the Sabbath, and the Sabbath was drawing and approaching. The women who had come with Jesus from Galilee followed closely and saw the tomb and how his body was laid down. Then they went back and made ready spices and ointments and perfumes on the Sabbath day they rested in accordance to the commandment. in Exodus 20, 16 and 20 through 10. Jesus really died for us. He was really placed in the tomb. He really expired on the cross of Calvary. He released his spirit. God so far away brought himself so close to man to be related to him. For God so loved the world, That's the whole creation, the cosmos. That he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believeth in him, that you and me should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world to him might have life. Do you have eternal life now? If you believe in Jesus Christ, you have eternal life. If you do not believe in Christ, you're condemned already. because you haven't believed that that light came into the world. The light of all man. Our Heavenly Father, we send this message out. We ask you, Father, to bless it as it goes out. I pray that you feed your people wherever they may be. Alabama, Pennsylvania, Wales, Australia, New York, Texas, wherever they may be. I pray that you feed them with your word. and that they grow in it. And those out there that need to be saved, I pray that you convict them of sin, righteousness, and judgment to come. Father, please forgive me where I fail you. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.
