The Start of Sin

Apart from the most starry-eyed idealist, most people recognize that the world is not as it should be. News headlines make us wonder how people can be so cruel. Worldview battles reveal radically different ideas of right and wrong. Our own faults make us wonder how can we come so far short of living up genuinely held ideals. How can we account for all the problems in a world that has supposedly been evolving since the beginning?

According to the Christian worldview the world's problems can be traced to sin. This message is unpopular but it is actually the good news. Unlike a naturalistic worldview Scripture can account for the origin of sin. Sin intruded into a good world, a world that God cares about and is restoring to an even grander state of perfection. The Bible teaches us how to think about sin, how to fight sin, and that God will fix sin. Sin is tremendously harmful to us and others; we cannot take it lightly. The good news is that sin can be forgiven. Sin can be overcome. Sin will be defeated.
