How to know the will of God

Some times we think God is playing peek-a-boo with us and His will for us, but that is not the case. So what is God's desire, choice, or will for each of us then? (It is hard to fathom but His will is not always done in our lives.) when He reveals His will we need to act on it. Are we willing to accept it though? Somethings are clearly revealed as part of God's will. Others require prayer, fasting, and much studying. To know His will our minds must be changed, geared toward knowing Him.
