Divine Sovereignty in Salvation, Part 2

17

When we read through the Scriptures, we find a common theme of the expected order of things reversed. For example, the young shepherd boy defeats the giant, armored soldier with a sling and a rock. When Rebekah bore twins, the Lord declared that the elder would serve the younger. How did it come to pass that David defeated Goliath and Jacob was blessed where Esau was rejected? Many might say that it was luck or fate. But the Scriptures tell us that it was by the Lord's sovereign decree that these things came to pass. It is through such ordering of things that salvation comes to the elect. It is not luck, fate, or even merit, but by God's sovereign and free choice, as was the Lord's choice to ordain the accursed death of the Savior to be the means of saving the lost. So then, all glory must be to our gracious and sovereign God – Pastor Schlegel
