we can open our Bibles to John chapter 14. John chapter 14, Baal, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. It's 85% in your Bible, and now that you're turning there, there's a page in your En su paquetito es una página verde y allí está un formato de la predica. Juan chapter 14 is going to be in verses 4, 5, and 6. But for context, we're going to start reading in chapter 14, verse 1 to verse 6. We're going to read this. Juan chapter 14, starting in verse 1 and going to verse 6. This is the word of God, and this is the Lord Jesus Christ speaking to his disciples, and he says, Do not let your heart be troubled. Believe in God, believing also in me. In the house of my Father there are many dwellers. If it were not so, I would have said to you, I am going to prepare a place for you, and if I go away and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and I will take you myself, so that where I am you may also be. Verse 4 And you know where I am going, and you know the way. Thomas said to him, Sir, we don't know where you're going. How can we know the way? Jesus said, I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but through me. Jonathan Edwards is considered by most people as one of the greatest theologians in the history of the United States. Basically, everyone would agree with this. Sometimes when you go to a list and maybe you think that that person is going to be number one on that list, but you see that that person is number five on that list. This always happens every year when people who study history make a list of theologians. And everyone knows that the number one is the Lord Jesus Christ. Even those who are not Christians know that Christ is number one on this list. But these people who study history say, oh, there's Gandhi, and Buddha, and then Confucius, and then Jesus at number five. And you say, okay. I know what you're trying to do, Mr. or Mrs. History, but this doesn't work. Sometimes people do this with the list of the greatest theologians in the history of the United States. And if you look at the list, hoping that Jonathan Edwards is number one, but maybe you find Charles Finney number one on the list. And you think, how strange that he is number one when he denies justification in faith, only justification in faith. Or maybe someone like Walter Rauschenbusch. Walter Rauschenbusch, who denied the heresy of the text, of the Bible. And he was THE man of liberalism at the turn of the 90s. And why are these men on this high list? But one of these people did a lot of good things. Walter Rushinbush did good things. He said that we have to fight for the work of children, that children don't have to be working, and that's good. But just because you fight so that children don't work, that doesn't make you a Christian. But if you deny the truth of Scripture, you are not a Christian. And that sometimes happens in the greatest theologians in the world. But many, many say that Jonathan Edwards is the best theologian in the United States. And if you think of such a great sermon, of the first revival, which is called, Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God, But he also made another sermon called The Future Punishment of the Evil, Inevitable and Intolerable. inevitable and intolerable." It's such a good title for a sermon, and the sermon is incredible. I read it a few weeks ago, and the sermon is about the punishment of those who didn't want to come to Christ and who are going to be in hell forever. And those who are in hell are not going to be able to bear it. Because those who are in hell are not going to have courage. Many times a man, throughout his life, looks at a situation and can think something like, I hope I never have to deal with this or that terrible thing. But if I had to deal with that, it would be difficult. And I could overcome it. But Edwards highlights that in hell, that's not possible. It's impossible. Because there's no courage in hell. There's no bravery in hell. And Edwards says that if you take the bravest man in the world and you take all the bravery in the world in a man, and that bravery disappears in an instant. And that goes away in an instant, in an oven, and all the perceived goodness that one believes one can have, disappears. And he makes an incredible illustration, and he begins with a hell. And you think you're going to survive in this oven. And you think you're going to survive in this oven. And maybe you can survive in this oven, but you have to be there for 15 minutes. But you feel all that pain. And you've been there for a minute. And maybe you have 14 minutes, but that one minute feels like a million years. It feels like so much time. Y quizás tú estás en este horno por una hora, pero ese minuto ahora se siente mucho más largo. And now you're in this oven for 24 hours, and you're there for a minute, and that minute will feel like eternity. And now imagine, a week, a month, years, millions of years, and eternity. How long that first minute would feel. And Edwards says that hell is going to be something much worse than we imagine. And what nonsense is to think the opposite? It's so vain to think that this is not going to happen. When all the people see the kingdoms of the world, and they see rebels who are going against the king and the kingdoms, and they know that those rebels have to be They have to be punished by the king. And God, who is the king of the universe, imagine that he will not be able to punish those rebels? Of course he will. And Edwards compares with a man who goes with a sword to fight, or the best man. who is going to fight with a big sword against a fierce storm of thunder and lightning. And he begins to throw that sword side by side, trying to stop these lightnings and storms. but that lightning will come and put him down in an instant. This sermon is incredible, and as I said, I recommend it to everyone. And hopefully, with Christian hope, a believer, a person with hope, a person here who has been born again, that when I have described this, perhaps something in our hearts Let us rejoice in the incredible love of our God that he has for you and your brothers and sisters in Christ. Because we do not deserve God's love. We do not deserve it for anything. To quote Jonathan Edwards, we deserve to be in that oven forever, for eternity, forever and ever, because we have sinned against God, and we have rebelled against Him. We do not deserve to be loved by God. How merciful is our God! How merciful is He who saved us by grace, through faith in Jesus Christ. If you're here today, if you're listening to this, and you haven't yet come to Christ, you need to know that the furnace is waiting for you. You have to know this absolutely. The fire of hell is waiting for you, and you are on the wide path that leads you there. And if you die in your sins without having faith in Jesus, you will definitely end up, 100%, you will end up in hell. And I also want you to know that God has provided, in His mercy, He has provided a way. A very specific path in which sinners like you can be saved from the torments of hell that we all deserve. And this path is only by faith in Jesus Christ. It is the only way that one of us, that anyone can be saved in the Lord Jesus Christ only. And that is what we are going to see. Now our text that there is only one way that a person can be saved, and this is to come at the feet of the Lord Jesus Christ, believing him who says, I am the way and the truth. What is happening here in chapter 14 of John? Is it a night before his crucifixion? There are some things that have happened. He already said who was going to betray him, who was Judas. And Jesus says at the end of chapter 13 of John, he says that the disciples began to have a lot of fear. What we see in chapter 13, verse 23, children, And do you know where I'm going? Because where I'm going, you don't know where I'm going. And you're not going to be able to come with me. And now the disciples are afraid. They don't want to be apart from Jesus. They love Jesus. They want to be with the Lord Jesus Christ. And they are very, very afraid. And here in chapter 14, knowing that they are afraid, he says, And he gives the remedy to those people who are afraid, to believe in God and to believe in me as well. That's the Christian remedy of fear, of believing in God and believing in the Lord Jesus Christ. And in verses 3 and 4, there are two specific reasons why you don't have to fear. Two specific reasons. Because you have to be conformed. In verse 2 it says, Because in the house of my father there are many dwellings, if it were not so, I would have said, I am going to prepare a place for you. So, a believer, Jesus Christ is there, as the word says, he has gone to prepare a place for you. That is something that we have to be, it has to bring us encouragement. And also, he gives them encouragement for their second coming. That he is going to come. The sound of the trumpet is going to come, and the whole eye is going to see him. And that has to have a lot of conformity. And on that day, when God returns, No vas a tener que ir y decirle a una persona, ah, has escuchado las noticias? No vas a hacer eso porque todos van a ver a Jesucristo venir en las nubes. Que gran palabras para hacerlos conforme a nosotros. And now in verse four, let's read verse four. It says, and you know where I'm going, and you know the way. How is it that Jesus Christ can say this? How is it that Jesus Christ can say this? And you know where I'm going, and you know the way. And let's go back to verse one. He was sending the disciples first to believe in God and to believe in Him. Now, consider the disciples. They have done that. They love the Lord Jesus Christ. They trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. So, He can encourage them and He can tell them, you know where I'm going and you know the way. It's a very good conclusion in the first three verses. It says, that we can have consolation, that He, if you are still alive, He will take you to heaven. J.C. Ryle comments on this, how better does Jesus speak of the believers than the believers speak of themselves? How better does Jesus speak of the believers than the believers speak of Jesus? Two things are true. Two things we have to be on guard for. The thought we have to keep in mind is to think that we know more than any other Christian that has ever existed. and that we know much more about all the Christians who have come before us. If this ever happens to you, Christian, if you ever start to think that you need to be very careful to follow that path, and maybe it has happened to us, And maybe we are, sometimes this happens to me, that I'm in my daily devotional, and maybe I say, oh, this happened, and I'm so sure, but when I read more and more other people, no one has come to that conclusion. And you know what it does? I think, oh, maybe I'm wrong, because I'm the only one who has seen this. So maybe I'm wrong. But sometimes that's not a big deal. But a lot of times it is a big deal. And that's because beliefs and confessions are so important. So our beliefs and confessions are so excellent. They're not infallible. The creeds and confessions are like those rubber things that are in the cars. The creeds and confessions are like those things that make us stay on the road, they don't make us stray. So we can't think that we have more knowledge or more intelligence than the Christians that have come from us just because we have a new understanding. But we also have to keep them We have to be on guard. On the contrary, for example, tell ourselves, I'm so stupid. That doesn't help you. That doesn't help you in any way. Sometimes we think, Sometimes we think, there are so many things I would like to understand better. And that's good. We have to wish to understand the scriptures as best as we can. Which, by the way, is good. Although most of the time they are thoughts like, I'm stupid, or stupid, I'm so stupid and I can't understand. All this to say, Christian, that you don't underestimate your own ability to understand the theological truths of the Scriptures. Don't do that. Also, Christian, do you believe, do you believe that when you are saying these things that I am so stupid, do you believe that Jesus looks at you and says, and he tells you that you're so stupid or ignorant? No, he doesn't do that. Imagine if you were a wife telling her husband, oh I'm so stupid, and the husband saying, oh yes, you are stupid. That would never happen. That's so bad. So, our Lord Jesus Christ does not do this. Once again, J. C. Ryle says, So, in what is happening here in chapter 14 of John, Many times we blame the disciples for not knowing. We punish the disciples for what they didn't know. Consider this, that for all the people in the world, they know much more than all the people in the world. They know more than the Lord Jesus Christ because the Lord Jesus Christ was with them. They knew that Jesus is God, and Jesus is the Son of God. They know so much. And those are the things. And why do they know that? And that's why the Lord Jesus Christ says in verse 4, and you know where I'm going, and you know the way. They know the way, because they know a lot. So the Lord Jesus Christ, he speaks much better to the believers than the believers speak to themselves. Verse 5 says, Thomas said, Lord, we do not know where you are going, how can we know the way? But here Jesus tells him that they do know the way. Did Jesus do something bad? Of course not. If you, a believer, have had a conversation with a brother or sister in the Lord, and you have told them something like, you know what, this year If I'm going to grow in the way of God, and maybe the person says, yes, I want to do that too, but I don't know how. You might say, what do you mean you don't know how? Of course you know. Maybe you can quote a verse from the Bible, you can refer to something you know, or you can refer to something that they may have heard. So there is no contradiction here. It's like a regular conversation. But here is a point that we cannot overlook, that God is sovereign. He is sovereign over everything, and He is sovereign over all conversations. He has thought of the fact that He is completely sovereign over every conversation that we have had in our life. He is sovereign over everything, also over conversations. And what God has done in His sovereignty, He has orchestrated this conversation in His sovereignty so that the Lord Jesus can provide one of the greatest things ever said by someone in the history of the world. And we see it here in verse 6. And this is where we're going to spend all of our time. Verse 6, one of the most beautiful verses in the Scriptures. Jesus said, I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but through me. This is one of the six greatest I Am's in the Scriptures. The first I am, he said that I am the bread of life. And in verse 8 he says, I am the light of the world. I am the shepherd. That he also resurrected Lazarus. And he said, I am the resurrection and the life. And now we come here, verse 6, chapter 14 of John, we see the The I am number six, he says, I am the way, the truth, and the life. And this is the most famous statement. And this statement of I am is the one that stands out the most. All the statements of I am, They have three parts. I am the way, the truth, and the life. The other declarations of I am only have two or one part, but this I am has three parts, the way, the truth, and the life. First, Jesus says, I am the way. And what Jesus is doing here What he's saying, what happens in Exodus chapter 3 says that Moses had this encounter with the Lord, and Moses says, tell him that I am the one who has sent you. So when Jesus says that, so when Jesus says, I am, He is making a claim of deity. And he says, I am the way. Jesus is the way. And naturally, you ask yourself, the way to what? You are the way to what? But the Lord Jesus Christ, he is the way. He is the way The only way in which one can reconcile with God, the only way, in a sense, we can argue that this was what Jesus said, that the first believers would take note, Let's turn to his Bible. Let's turn to Acts chapter 9. I am the way. and because the first believers were called the followers of the way. Let's go to chapter 9, verses 2, 9, 1 and 2. Saul, still breathing threats and death against the disciples of the Lord, came to the High Priest and asked for letters for the synagogues of Damascus, saying that if you find any men or women of this way, bring them prisoners to Jerusalem. So, everything through the book of Acts, you can see the believers of the beginning who are believers of the way. If this is so, why don't we use this? Why don't we use and call them to us as followers of the way? Why do we call them to us Christians, not followers of the way? Well, it's not bad to call us believers. And well, the word of God describes us as believers. It's not bad to say that we are Christians. And in Antioch is where Christians were first called. King Agrippa told Paul that he almost convinced him to be a Christian. And it also says in Scripture that if you suffer as Christians, then there is nothing wrong in saying that we are Christians. And the pagans started calling the Christians Christians because it was a way of insulting them. It's not so interesting that the Lord, that thing that the pagans thought they were going to insult the Christians, the Lord used it for a good thing, and now we take that word and call them Christians. So here it says, I am the way. The point is that He is the only way. If you are not a Christian, if you are not a believer, I want you to know this. This way is wide for you. Right now it is wide for you. If you repent of your sins and believe in the gospel, you will be saved. If you repent, repent of your ways, turn from your sins, you will be saved. Those are the best news. They're good news, but there's also bad news. And that's why they're called good news. And the bad news is, this is what we were talking about at the beginning of this message. The bad news is that we all deserve to be in the eternal oven. Because God hates sin. Because God hates sin. all of of faith in Christ, the wrath of God. And we deserve to go to hell forever because we have sinned against God. Those are the bad news. And those are the horrible news. But the good news of the Gospel is that God has so much mercy and has so much grace with us. Jesus Christ came here to this world, lived a perfect life, never sinned, and went to the cross of Calvary. And on that cross, what happened? El sufrio mas de lo que nosotros podamos imaginar. Si el sufrio verdaderamente But there were many things that were also happening that the physical eye could not see. And it is the wrath of God being put on our Lord Jesus Christ. But after he died, but in a dead permanence, he resurrected on the third day. And the Bible says that if you repent and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, you will be saved. Incredible! The path that leads to salvation is wide for you to come to the Lord Jesus Christ. And the path is open right now. And don't think for a second that this path will remain open forever. It will not remain open forever. This path will close someday. At some point, you're going to want to go down that path that leads to salvation, but you're not going to be able to, because it's going to be too late. A great example is what we saw in our first scripture in Amos 9. Here in Amos 9, what is happening is that the people of Israel are rebelling against God. They are rebelling against God. And Jesus sent the prophet Amos. to urge them to repent and trust in Him, but people rejected and denied Him. And this is what happens. Chapter 9 of Amos, verse 1 says, I saw the Lord who was on the altar. First it says, what does it mean here? In the world of before, In the world of Israel, the thought was, it was completely superstition. If I go to an altar, and I grab the crutches of the altar, it means that I am safe. It means that nothing bad is going to happen to me. That was a belief from ancient times. But it says in Amos 9.1, I saw the Lord who was on the altar. And then he says, And he said, Knock down the gate, and break the doors, and cut them to pieces over the heads of all. And the last of them I will slay with my sword, and there will be no escape from them. Do you know what has just happened here? People want to go there. They want to go to the altar. But the Lord is there basically sealing that entrance, closing that entrance to the altar. So the only escape is through our Lord Jesus Christ. What would I do in an emergency situation? And I wish we had thought of that, wherever I went. And maybe I was in a bag that you have, that you can grab quickly to get out and escape a situation. And the plan, for example, here where we live on this island, we can't go to another place. For example, we have to be in a camp where we are safe, because it's an island. Imagine 8 million people trying to get out of this island. It's impossible. But if there is a possibility of getting out of this island, you would do it. And right now in Los Angeles these fires are happening that are so incredible, so bad. And there was a story that I heard that there was only one way to get out. They had to abandon their cars because the fire was everywhere, all around, and there was only one way out. How bad, how horrible had to be those people who couldn't escape those fires. And the only way out of these fires was blocked. Now they have no way out. How horrible is this, what is happening in California. And that's the only thing. In the same way, that's how our Lord Jesus Christ is. He is the only way for us, for the sinner man to be saved. And it is only because of him that we can confidently go and approach the throne of grace. And the second thing he says is that I am the truth. This Jesus, who is truly God, truly man, who is where the truth comes from, And he is the master of all truth. Look at what F.B. Mayer says, what he says about Jesus. As a master he says, There was a freshness, a self-tested veracity, a depth, an authority in the words of the Master that carried the mark of the house of the deity. In Psalm 45 we see how much Jesus loves his bride. We see there in Psalms 45 that he goes to war for her, and he fights for the truth, and he is the truth. And because he is the truth, it means two things to us, believers, that we can be well trusted that there is no falsehood in Scripture. Second thing, This means that we have to reject all falsehood. All false things. Why? Because we want to follow Christ. We want to be lovers of the Scriptures and of the truth. We have to want to follow Christ. And Jesus is the truth. And He loves the truth. The third thing that He says He is, is... He says, I am life. Yo soy el camino, yo soy la verdad, y yo soy la vida. Él es la fuente de toda vida. Vamos a ir a Juan capítulo 1, versículo 3 al 4. Juan 1, versículo 3 al 4 dice, dice, All things were made for him, and without him nothing that was made was made. In him was life, and life was the light of men. And this is who Jesus is. He is the source of life. He is the creator of life, and he is the giver and author of eternal life. and left heaven so that we may know this about him, so that we may have eternal life. Look at what it says in John 6. Oh, in John chapter 7, one to two, it says, look at what Jesus says here. When he is praying to God, these things Jesus spoke, taking all the eyes to heaven. He said, Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, so that your Son may also glorify you. And to you, as you have given, you are over all flesh, so that you may give eternal life to all whom you have given. So he gives eternal life, the supreme kingdom over life. That means that all living beings owe him an altar. And he showed this when he resurrected from death. And when he returns, and when he returns on his second coming and raises all the people from their graves, he will be glorified. So it means that all people, all living beings, owe Him unconditional loyalty. Even microscopic things owe Him all loyalty. And Christian believer, this which is life, He has your life in His hands. He has your life in His precious hands. This One who is life has your life in His hands. He is holding your life in His hands. He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life. And He is exclusively the way, the truth, and the life. This is exclusive, and this is a very exclusive message. And touching on this theme of exclusivity, Jesus says, what we see at the end, At the end of John 6, chapter 14, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father but through me. No one comes to the Father but through me. In case we are confused for some strange reason, If someone says, I am the way, the truth, and the life, but really what Jesus is saying is that I am one of many, of many ways. Or maybe Jesus is saying that you only have to believe in a higher power, but you can't come to that conclusion. You definitely cannot come to that conclusion of what Jesus says because of what he says at the end of verse 6 when he says, No one comes to the Father but through me. No one comes to the Father but through our Lord Jesus Christ. Do you know that no one means no one? No one, absolutely no one else. Jesus Christ, people can come to God. And maybe there are exceptions, people can say, but no, there are no exceptions. Nobody means nobody. But maybe someone can say, really? And look, maybe Jesus, but they are so good and they are such a good person. And that person? But there is no exception. If someone is not believing, in the exclusivity of Christ, no matter how good they are, no matter how talented they are in some area, it doesn't make any difference because there is only one way, and only one way that people can be saved, and that is faith in Christ alone. Jesus doesn't give any other path, any other route, only through Jesus Christ. You can't say, oh, you just have to be passionate about something. No. And you can't be saved by your own works, because you can't be saved or saved by your own works. Because those works are not going to be fair to you in the eyes of Christ. Why? Because there is no one person who is just. No. Not even one person. None. The Bible is so clear. If you think logically, it doesn't make any way that you can be saved by your own ways. To think that we can go to the highest God and say, oh, look at all the good things I did, and say, aren't you impressed, God? Imagine if Michael Jordan is outside playing basketball, and you say to Michael Jordan, Muchas gracias, placer de conocerte. Mira como este truco que yo hago en esta corte. Él no va a estar impresionado por mí. Entonces, Dios no va a ser impresionado cuando hombres pecadores vengan al trono de Él y digan, mira, Dios mira a mis buenas obras. Si tú lo piensas, si nosotros podemos ser salvos por our works, what work did the Lord Jesus Christ spend to come to this world and come to save us? Because we can be saved by our works. But that is not the case. We are saved because we cannot be saved by our works. We are saved through the Lord Jesus Christ, and that is why He came to this world. Yes, Jesus Christ brought you here at this moment. You are here in the church. He brought you to this place on this day. You have heard the most important passage in the word of God. That is not an accident. He has brought you here, where you have heard chapter 14, verse 6, one of the most important verses. I am the way, the truth, and the life, and no one comes to the Father but through me. Let's pray. Dios, te damos gracia, aunque nosotros merecemos de ir al infierno para siempre. Te damos gracias por tu gracia. Te damos gracia por este modo de salvación que tú nos has dado, que es a través de nuestro Señor Jesucristo. Dios, oramos por cualquier persona que está escuchando este mensaje aquí en este lugar y por las redes en línea. And we pray, God, that we can take this and you do a great job. Save us for your grace. And we know that you can certainly do this for anyone who believes in you. We thank you very much, Lord Jesus Christ. For your son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
