The Temple's Torn Veil

103

When God told His people to
build the tabernacle, He created a
living object lesson about their
relationship with Him:
God is with His people – as
pictured by the glory cloud.
Yet God is apart from His
people; His holiness separates Him from
sinners – like us.
The veil of the temple – an echo of the
tabernacle – was a profound reminder of the
uncrossable chasm between God and man.
That veil established in the minds of God's
people the reality of His apartness... that He is an
unapproachable light, save for the specific means
of fellowship God Himself provides.
The whole system of sacrifices carried out
meticulously by the priests daily, and the high
priest annually, had been that means of
approaching God.
But now, through the work of Christ at
Calvary, the way to God is open – once, forever,
for all who trust in Jesus!
I look forward to our time together this
Sunday as we consider the miracles that
accompanied Jesus' death at Calvary, and the
miracle of lasting nearness to God.
