The King Before Pilate

52

The trial of Jesus revealed the political tensions between the Jews and the Romans who occupied Judah. Although the Jews desired to put Jesus to death, they were prevented by the Romans from doing so. This was in the sovereign plan of God to sacrifice His Son on a tree—a cross. Pilate, being a fair judge, could find no valid charge against Jesus to condemn Him. The political play in this event strongly argues for God's sovereignty in the whole affair. Pilate gave into the Jews for political expediency. This should be comfort for God's people in these days of political turbulence. Jesus reigns from the tree!
