Enter by the Narrow Gate

Sermon: Matthew 7:13-20

Introduction:

Throughout the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus has been laying out for us that there are only two ways to live—the way of the Lord and the way of the world. He commands here to choose the first path.

Two commands on what to choose --
I. v. 13 – Enter by the narrow gate.
A. Jesus gives a description of the first alternative.
- wide gate
- easy path
- many are on this road
- it leads to destruction
B. The second alternative is also described.
- narrow gate
- hard path
- few are on this road
- it leads to life
II. v. 13 – Jesus commands you to make the right choice.
A.

III. v. 15 – Beware of the false prophets.
A. Keep in mind the immediate context – Teaching about
the way of salvation
B. Notice 2 things about false prophets --
1. Are they easy to discern?
2. You can discern them by their fruit
