Psalm 136 is a praise psalm (perhaps the greatest of these), structured in call-and-response form. The psalm's topic is God's "hesed", a Hebrew word referring to His loving-kindness (or, in New Testament language, His grace).
We note that hesed cuts two ways: Caring for the faithful, and destroying those who are in rejection or denial of the Lord.
