Luke 11:1-13 – God's Pattern for Prayer

Pray then, like this …--Matt. 6:9 When you pray, say …--Luke 11:2

I. Prostrate Invocation

Prostrate: lay oneself flat on the ground face downward, especially in reverence or submission.
Invoke: (to call upon) to appeal to someone as an authority for an action or for support

I am utterly bowed down and prostrate; all the day I go about mourning.—Psalm 38:6

Then some of the itinerant Jewish exorcists undertook to invoke the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, "I adjure you by the Jesus whom Paul proclaims."—Acts 19:13

II. Proportionate Petitions

o God's Glory: His Name, Kingdom, and Will

o Our Needs: Physical and spiritual

III. A Proper Ending

o In Jesus' Name

Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it.—John 14:13-14
