In our previous Evidence for
God devotional, we discussed Dick Van Dyke's dangerous pseudo-faith
in a nameless higher power and his words, whatever that means. Dick's rejection of the Bible
as God's infallible inspired word and his rejection of the
gospel of Jesus Christ resulted in his promotion of liberal Marxist
politics, including abortion and sodomite marriage and every
other liberal cause and candidate. How did Dick come to the point
that he could be such a talented, nice guy who promotes such vile
wickedness in the name of politics? It begins with Dick's rejection
of the light of the biblical Jesus and of God's words. Jesus tells us this in John 3.19,
And this is the condemnation, that light is coming to the world,
and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds
were evil. Once light is rejected, a man is walking toward darkness. Things will happen that will
give him what he pretends to be good excuses to continue to
walk away from God. In Dick's case, he was made an
elder of a Presbyterian church back in the mid-60s. And there's
no evidence Dick had even made a profession of faith in the
gospel of Jesus Christ, which is the absolute prerequisite
for being an elder in any legitimate Christian church. But beyond
that, obviously, there was no spiritual maturity or qualification
to be an elder. A child can't mature if it's
aborted, and Dick's faith was aborted, and he was never born
again by his own admission. And then, in his state of spiritual
darkness, he tells of an incident on page 69 of his book titled
Keep Moving, where a meeting of the church elders, several
objected to the idea of a black Baptist church choir singing
at Dick's Presbyterian Church. Dick says, quote, they did not
want any black people in the church. I was disgusted. I left
that meeting and that was my last Sunday in any church, end
quote. Well, Dick was right to be disgusted,
but using that as an excuse to reject Christianity as a whole,
and Christ in particular, is just ridiculous and wicked. So
Dick then says, quote, I wasn't quite done with religion, though.
I began attending Jewish services with the congregation Beth Orr,
whose members met in a Unitarian church in Studio City, end quote.
And the rest is history. But as you might expect, there's
a lot of back history behind this event and Dick's rejection
of biblical Christianity. He tells of an experience at
age 11 at a Bible camp. Nothing about Jesus, just about
a religious experience, I guess. But he says, quote, for the next
three years, I carried around a Bible, which I read from cover
to cover, end quote. He even says, quote, I decided
I would become a minister. That is, until I joined the high
school drama club. Suddenly, my plans changed. My
Bible ended up on the shelf, and I started down the road that
eventually landed me in Hollywood, end quote. In other words, the
Bible was trashed, and he says he started reading apostates
like Soren Kierkegaard, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and Paul Tournier. As a result, Van Dyck says that,
quote, I've come to see that there are no sure answers, end
quote. Except, Van Dyke is sure that
the Bible isn't literally true, and he's sure evolution is true,
and creationism is false. On page 158 of his book, he laments
attempts to teach opposing views of evolution in the schools,
giving a letter grade to it, saying, quote, the country's
malingering failure to separate fact from fiction in the classroom
90 years later, F. Dick Van Dyke is a sad example
of what happens when a person is ignorant of or choosing to
ignore the evidence for God and then goes on to make up a God
in his own image to his own liking. Dick likes to present himself
as a knowledgeable man, and in many ways he is, but it's clear
that he's guarded his mind from learning truth about God in his
word, and his heart is darkened by ignorance. If he would have
learned the truth, his conclusions would have been different. Proverbs
2, 3, and 5 says, yea, if thou cryest after knowledge and liftest
up thy voice for understanding, if thou seekest her as silver
and searchest for her as for hid treasures, Then shalt thou
understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.
That's true about Dick Van Dyke and everyone else.
