I will make it a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. I will hide it towards my heart without even suspecting it's God. Hebrews 6.19 We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, a hopeful assurance steadfast. Hebrews 6.19 SCS Mission Statement SCS exists to glorify God in all that we think, all that we say, and all that we do. I believe in the inspiration of the Bible, both the Old and the New Testaments, the creation of man by the direct act of God, the incarnation and virgin birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, His identification as the Son of God, His vicarious atonement for the sin of mankind by the shedding of His blood on the cross, For our Bible reading, we will be doing Romans Chapter 13. Please open your Bibles to Romans 13. So, my homeroom and I, these are the 9th and 10th graders, we will be reading the odd numbers. You will be reading the even numbers. Okay, so remember we're all on one together. Romans 13. Romans 13. Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore, whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment to themselves. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. Verse 3. For he is God's minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid. For he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is God's minister and avenger to exercise upon him who practices evil. Therefore you must be subject not only because of wrath but also for conscience sake. For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are not ministers attending continually to this very thing. Render therefore to all their due. Taxes to whom taxes are due. Customs to whom custom, fear to whom fear, honor to whom honor. O no one, anything, except Jabal Mohamed, for who he who wants to murder shall put the bow on him. For the commandment, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not murder, you shall not steal, you shall not bear false witness, you shall not covet, If there be any other commandments, are all summed up in this saying, namely, you shall love your neighbor as yourself. Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore, love is the fulfillment of the law. And know this, knowing the time, that now there is high time to awake our sleep. For now our salvation is nearer than ever. The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Therefore, let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light. Let us walk properly as in the day, not in revelry and drunkenness, not in lewdness and lust, not in strife and envy. But loving on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh to fulfill its lusts. Amen. First, we're going to teach you fun kid's song. It's called Climb, Climb Up Sunshine Mountain. Come up here, girls. Don't hide back there. Okay. Singing. One time we'll sing it, the next time you can sing it with us. It's really short and easy. Okay, ready? Climb, climb up sunshine mountain. Heavenly breezes blow. Climb, climb up sunshine mountain. Faces all aglow. Turn, turn from sin and sadness, look to God on high. Climb, climb up Sunshine Mountain, you and I. Okay, try it with me, everybody. Ready? Climb, climb up Sunshine Mountain Heavenly breezes blow Climb, climb up Sunshine Mountain Faces all aglow Turn, turn from sin and sadness Look to God on high Climb, climb up Sunshine Mountain, you and I. OK, the next song you have music for, it's called, I Just Keep Trusting My Lord. The other side. There you go. You're going to sign on both sides over here. I just keep trusting my Lord. Ready? I just keep trusting my Lord as I walk along. I just keep trusting my Lord and He gives us song. Though the storm clouds darken the sky, or the heavenly trail, I just keep trusting my Lord, He will never fail. He's a faithful friend, such a faithful friend, I can count on Him to the very end. Though the storm clouds darken the sky or the heavenly trail, I just keep trusting my Lord. He will never fail. OK, now if you look at the other music, this one is called Glory, hallelujah, Christ has set me free. If you're saved, you are free from sin. That's what we're singing about. Ready? Glory, hallelujah, Christ has set me free. Glory, hallelujah, until right now I see. My sins have been forgiven. I'm on my way to heaven to live eternally. Glory, hallelujah. He's coming soon for me. We have one more special song. Today is Mr. Na's birthday. We're going to sing to Mr. Na. Should he come up front for us to sing to him? First English, then Korean. Okay, ready? Before we start our play, I want to make sure you can pronounce four names. The first one is the hardest name. I will say it, and then you try to say it after me. Ahasuerus. I'm King Ahasuerus. The next one is easy. It's the lady that Ahasuerus married. Her name is Esther. The third one is her uncle Mordecai. And the fourth one is the bad guy, Haman. It's yummy, yummy. Call Vashti! I want everyone to see my beautiful wife. What? She cannot disobey my commandment. What should I do to her? That is a good plan. Vashti can no longer be queen. have all the beautiful maidens brought before the king. Hear ye! Hear ye! The king will choose a new queen. Let all the beautiful women of the entire country, the beautiful maidens, bring them here before the king. Hear ye! Hear ye! I came to say goodbye. The Kingsmen are taking me to the king. Esther, when you go to the king, do not tell anyone that you're a Jew. Yes, ma'am. Tell me what you want so that you can look your best before you go to the king. It's coming on now. All right, she looks beautiful in her beautiful blue dress. Oh, the next one in her purple dress. Black dress. Blue dress lady, yay. Blue dress with pearls, white dress and silver necklace. Good job dressing these ladies. Gold dress with gold necklace. Red dress with gold necklace. I don't know what the advice they got. She wanted a white dress and this gold necklace. I like her hair done, but she can't do that anymore. Hear ye! Hear ye! The king has chosen his new queen! Long live Long live Queen Esther! Long live Queen Esther! Look at what you're doing. You're showing them the back. They have to see the work. OK, everybody says, long live Queen Esther! Long live Queen Esther! Watch. I did it. Esther, you must warn the king. I have discovered that Bethan and Tears plan to kill the king. Oh no. Hello Esther. Oh king, live forever. Mordecai just told me to warn you that Bethan and Tears plan to kill you. Treason! Hang them from the gallows! Hey He does not respect me destroy his people Oh Oh king, live forever. Did you know that there are people in your kingdom who do not obey your laws? They should not be allowed to live. If it pleases the king, let a decree be written that they should be destroyed. If this happens, I, Haman, will pay 10,000 silver talents to the king's treasury. 10,000 silver talents? Yes, I will make that law right now. Hear ye, hear ye. The king has commanded that on the 13th day of the 12th month of Adar, all people may come and destroy all the Jews. The end. We're out. What? Why? That is horrible. Who cares? Can we take their property and money too? Take these clothes to Mordechai so we won't look so bad. Your Majesty, Mortar says he cannot put on my scroll because he is in mourning. What is wrong? The King personally ordered all Jews to be killed on the 15th day of the 12th month of Avon. Oh no! Enough, sir. You must go to the King and beg him to save the lives of the Jews. Do you know the law? Nobody can go to the King without being called. The King has not called for me in the last 30 days. Do not think that you will escape just because you are in the King's palace. If you do not speak to the King, someone else will rise to deliver the Jews, but you will die. Who knows what our God will do to the King in such a time as this? It all reduces to trying to fast and pray for me for three days and nights. And I will also fast and pray, and then I will go to the cave. If I perish, I perish. What is your wish, Queen Esther? What is your request? It shall be done up to half of my kingdom. If it pleases the king, let the king and Haman come to a banquet that I prepared today. Call Haman. We will go to this banquet. Now what is your request, Queen Esther? It shall be done after half of the kingdom. If it pleases the king, let the king and Haman come again tomorrow. And then tomorrow I'll tell the king my request. We'll wait for that tomorrow. Zeresh, I'm really climbing the ladder of success. One, the king literally favors me. Two, the queen invited me to a banquet with just her and the king today, and she invited me to another one tomorrow. The only thing that bothers me is that Mordecai won't bow to me. Just build a gallows and ask the king if he can hang Mordecai on it. That's a great idea. Ugh, I cannot sleep. Call the royal historian to read to me. The last entry in the history book is about Big Zan and Turash trying to kill the king. Mordecai let you reward the king and the two wicked men were hanged. I don't remember that. What did I do to reward Mordecai? Nothing has been done for him. I must correct that error first thing in the morning. Thank you. Finally, good morning. Is anyone out in my courtyard? Call Heyman. Heyman, I need your advice. What should be done to the man that I desire to honor? He was once honored. Let a royal robe be put on him. Let him ride the king's royal horse. Then let a noble man lead him through the streets proclaiming, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king desires to honor. I like it. Take a royal robe, put it on Mordecai, and put Mordecai on my royal horse. Then you lead him through the streets doing everything you suggested. I've never been so shocked in my life! I thought the king was going to honor me with all those questions, and instead I had to honor Mordecai! I hate that man! Be careful. If Mordecai is Jewish, you will not sit down with him. Instead, you will fall before him. Hey man, make haste. It is the time to answer the queen's favors. Two delicious meals. Thank you, Queen Esther. Now, what is your request? What is your petition? It shall be given to you up to half of the kingdom. If I have not favored your side, O King, please save my life and the lives of my people who have been sold to be killed. If I had just been sold to be slaves, I wouldn't have said anything, but I cannot let my people be annihilated. Who dares to try to kill my beautiful wife and her people? Where is he? Enemies is wicked payment. Yo, queen. Yo. This is Aubrey. I didn't know you were due. Guards! Will he assault the queen while the king is here? Oh, king, your driver came out of the building. He wants to hang Mordecai. Hang him out of the book, yo. Somebody needs to send Mordecai to me. He's a man I can trust. I will make Mordecai second in the kingdom. And Queen Esther, you may have Haman's property. Now, is there anything further you would like? In the face of the king, let the law that was written to kill the Jews be reversed, because I cannot stand to see my people be destroyed. Indeed, I have hanged Haman on the gallows, and I have given you Haman's property. I cannot undo a law that was signed with my signet ring. But you can write a new law. You can write a law that the Jews can protect themselves. And then you can sign it with my signet ring. Get the scribes to help you write this law. You may go. Help me! Here ye, by the king's royal edict, on the 13th day of the 12th month of Edadar, the Jews are permitted to protect their own lives by attacking, harassing, and destroying those who try to kill or destroy them. Hear ye, hear ye, the word of the king. What a relief. Oh, good. That is a big change. I will not try to attack any Jews. The Jews have killed 10 of Haman's sons. In Shushan, they say that the Jews have killed 500 men. I don't know what yet they've done in the other provinces of the King. Now, what is your wish further? Do you have any more requests, Queen Esther? If it pleases the King, let all the Jews in Shushan do the same thing tomorrow, and let Haman's sons' bodies be hanged on the gallows. Hang Haman's sons on the gallows, and proclaim that tomorrow The Jews may again fight for their lives and destroy their enemies. So the Jews killed 75,000 of their enemies, but they did not take any of their property. So the Mesozoic Jews of every year, they were celebrating the Feast of Purim on the 14th and the 15th day of the 12th month of Adar. Okay, first question. What was the name of the king? He just raised his hand, but he doesn't know. How about the other one in the front? Yuri is not the king. Does anyone know the name of the king? You have to speak up. I can't hear you. It was not Haman. It was not Haman. It was not Haman. It was not Haman. It was not Haman. It was not Haman. It was not Haman. It was not Haman. It was not Haman. It was not Haman. It was not Haman. It was not Haman. It was not Haman. It was not Haman. It was not Haman. It was not Haman. It was not Haman. It was not Haman. It was not Haman. It was not Haman. It was not Haman. It was not Haman. Rafa, do you know? No, he was not the king. All right, the king is Ahasuerus. Ahasuerus. Sorry, you missed that one. Okay, the second What was the name of the lady the king married? Esther. Bad thing John killed. To kill and be Jews and make a law about killing Jews. That's correct. You can come up. Thank you. Thank you. This is a hard one. At the end of the story, Mordecai said they were going to have a celebration every year. What is the name of the celebration? Anybody? Samuel? Samuel? Do you know the name of the celebration? Okay, Samuel, what do you think? I think he changed his mind. No. Any teachers, do you know what that celebration is called? Mrs. Chi. Yes, it is the Feast of Pearl. Come on up. You got a hard one. Okay, here's another hard one. Does anyone remember the name of Cayman's wife? My wife. Rafa, you know? No. Hayman's wife. We only had that only said one time in the whole play. What do you think it is? What do you think it is? Any guess? He doesn't know. Hajin, any guess? Hajin? No. Hayman's not married himself. Any teachers know? I see enterprising high school students trying to use their bibles. Her name was? Zeresh. Her name rhymes with one of the two other bad guys. There were two bad guys mentioned. Their names were Bigfan and Teresh. What did they get in trouble for? Bigfan and Teresh. Why were they in trouble? Irina. That's correct. Come on up. I think that's all the questions that I had. So thank you very much. All right. We have just a few minutes before we close. I think the girls may have their mouths full, but we're going to try to sing a final song. You know, we heard about celebration. I think, get out your hymnals. It's right under your seats. Alright, so get your hymnals from under your seats. Turn in your hymnals. Everyone with me? Turn in your hymnals to all creatures of our God and King. That's a good song to finish with as we see how God delivered the Jewish people, keeping his promise to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Three, three, all creatures of our God and King. We will sing verses one, four, and five. One, four, and five, stand to sing 33, all creatures of our God and King. Stand up, please. Three, three, all creatures of our God and King. Sing it together. All creatures of our God and King, hear the poor boys and girls sing, Alleluia, Alleluia. Verse four In the final verse verse 5 Leave your hymnal open. You're on page 33. Turn back two pages to 31. We'll sing just the first verse. Oh, worship the King, all glorious above. Then, I'll have an announcement, we'll pray, and we'll be done. So, just verse one, O worship the King, all glorious above, O gratefully sing his power and his love. Verse one. All together. Amen. We pray, Father, that you would keep us safe, that you would help us to remember all the works that you have done to keep us safe, to keep us alive, to save us in this life and from our sins through Jesus Christ, our Lord.
