All White and Clean

28

Our text this week is Leviticus 13:12-17, which continues instruction on the priestly duties to examine and diagnose leprosy. We have the opportunity to reflect this week on what it means to be completely and thoroughly "scourged" as we study the case of the leper who is completely covered, everywhere the priest looks, such that he is declared to be clean. It is helpful to contrast the text from our passage for the week with Isaiah 1:5-6:

Why should you be stricken again?
You will revolt more and more.
The whole head is sick,
And the whole heart faints.
From the sole of the foot even to the head,
There is no soundness in it,
But wounds and bruises and putrefying sores;
They have not been closed or bound up,
Or soothed with ointment.

How we respond to the scourging of God is absolutely critical to understanding what God would teach us from Leviticus.
