Dead Preaching Is Often The Cause Of A People's Deadness

151

Dead Preaching is Often the Cause of a People's Deadness William Fenner (1600‒1640) William Fenner was a Puritan pastor who was educated at Pembroke College, Cambridge. He ministered in Essex, and was admired for his plain but zealous style of preaching. Few of Fenner's works are extant in modern editions, but what follows is drawn from Christ's Alarm to Drowsy Sinners, a title which is currently being prepared for publication by Digital Puritan Press. "And unto the angel of the church in Sardis, write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead." Revelation 3:1

A minister may be at fault if his people are dead, and do not have more of a heart for doing good things; and that they are as ignorant, cold, ungodly, worldly, and vain as they are.
