First John 5, I'm gonna preach
what I had begun to preach. Wednesday night, the Lord had
accomplished what He desired to accomplish in the preaching
there, and as I was writing the things down, I kind of assumed
that it wasn't going to be a part of that message, but it all tied
together. Okay, so if you haven't heard last Wednesday's preaching,
go home now, pull it up, listen, no, I'm just kidding. But do
go home and listen to it, though. It's, you know, Sermon Audio,
they want you to title your sermons, okay? And it does help keep it
organized and stuff, but it's the true God. If you look that
up, And just listen down through those things, it'll give you
a bit of a foundation of what we're looking at tonight. But we ended
here in 1 John 5, and it's where we're going to pick up again.
And we're going to have a couple of thoughts at the beginning,
and then we're going to lay out basically the doctrine of the
spirit of man. Okay, that phrase, spirit of man, is only used,
I think, is four times in your King James Bible, and so it's
a very easy study to do. And I just looked through a few
of those things, and we're just gonna look at that a little bit
tonight, okay? Before I do, though, Peter, would
you ask the Lord to bless the time of preaching, please? Father,
I thank you for this opportunity to be in your house tonight.
Thank you that we can once again hear your word, Father. Father,
you say where two or three are gathered in your name, you'll
be in their midst, Father. And I believe there are two or
three here gathered in your name, Father, and you promised to be
in our midst. So I ask that you bless Pastor Seeley as he preaches
tonight. Give him those words that we
need to hear. I ask all this in your only begotten Son's name,
amen. Amen. Oh, what a precious name,
that name of Jesus. 1 John 5 and verse 10. He that believeth on the Son
of God hath the witness in himself. And we just ought to thank God
for that. And if you don't have that witness, you ought to just
thank God that he just told you you're supposed to have the witness. That's supposed to be there.
If it's not there, something's missing. Okay, we'll just keep
going. He that believeth not God hath
made him a liar, because he believeth not the record that God gave
of his son. And he tells us what that record
is. And this is the record that God hath given to us eternal
life, and this life is in his son. These are the verses that
we ended with Wednesday night, okay? This is what we closed
things out with. This is what was the culmination of it. And
this is the springboard for tonight. We're speaking of eternal life,
okay? That next verse says he that
hath the Son hath life he that hath not the Son of God hath
not life It's very plain and simple Salvation is a person. It's Jesus Christ. It is the
person of Jesus Christ. It is the Christ of the Old Testament
Manifested in the person of Jesus that word made flesh and look
at verse 20. I It says this, and we know that
the Son of God is come, and we cannot emphasize enough how important
that word is, is. That word is denotes a present
tense immediately right now, is come. Again, we talked about
this Wednesday night. Brother Terry Miller has come
to this church. We might be talking about the
last 20 years, We might be talking about tonight, but he has come. It's very vague. It opens it
up to a lot of things. But right now, at present, Terry
Miller is gone. You know he's in the room then.
If your Bible says that the Son of God has come, You look at
chapter four, and it says, every spirit that confesseth not that
Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God, and this is that
spirit of Antichrist, where you've heard that it should come, and
even now already is it in the world. That Bible was written
by the spirit of Antichrist. If it does not confess that Jesus
Christ is come in the flesh, it is of the spirit of Antichrist,
and the Bible tells you that, right there. Holy Ghost has nothing
to do with that. Nothing to do with that whatsoever
as from the spirit of Antichrist. You're just looking doctrinally
at what your Bible actually says, okay? Is is a very important
word. All right, and we know that the
Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that
we may know him that is true, and that we are in him that is
true. Now, Brother Dale, Threadgill, I got a couple of Dales in here
tonight, we gotta single it out. You talked about that thing in
Daniel there, where Gabriel came and gave Daniel that understanding,
and he gave him that, what was the other word? Skill and understanding
in those things. That's what God does. I believe
it was Russell brought up, there he is, he's in the back. Russell
brought up that unction from the Holy One, and you know all
things. It's an understanding. That Holy One of God, the Lord
Jesus Christ himself, gives you that anointing on the inward
parts, and you know all things. You go to Luke chapter 24, and
it says, and then opened he their understanding of the scriptures.
It's from Jesus. That's how you have that understanding,
from that eternal Son of God. from the word of God. And as
I opened it up this morning, or just this evening, that word
that you hold in your hand. We know the Son of God is coming
and has given us an understanding that we may know him that is
true and that we are in him that is true. Even in his Son, Jesus
Christ, this is the true God and eternal life. Now all these
are just foundation for tonight. We just laid the first course
of block. Go to John chapter three. More than likely, you don't even
need to turn to it. But I think it's good to lay
your eyes on the Word of God. John chapter three. Mara, this is for you. And as
Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must
the Son of Man be lifted up. What did he say would happen?
If I be lifted up, I will draw all men unto me. This spake he
of his death. And here we lift him up yet again.
And he is drawing, drawing all men unto him. Why? Because he's not willing that
any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. He
tasted death for every man. We looked at that this morning
too. Blessed be the name of the Lord. Verse 15, that whosoever
believeth in him, should not perish, but have eternal life. Now what did John tell us in
1 John chapter five? What is that eternal life? It's
Jesus Christ himself. That is eternal life. He is eternal
life. If you don't have Jesus Christ,
you do not have eternal life, let alone the everlasting life
spoken of in verse 16. Now we're gonna continue on in
this. Go to Hebrews chapter 11. Hebrews chapter 11, that great
hall of faith. Verse one says, now faith is
the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not
seen. And you can cross-reference that
over to Romans chapter one, and you can see about the things
that are not seen, but are made evident. Okay, even His eternal
power and Godhead. Okay, so faith is the substance
of things hoped for. What is hoped for? Hoped for
throughout the entirety of the Bible, what did people hope for
at resurrection? That's the hope. The hope of
the resurrection are the things hoped for, and faith is the substance
of that. Why? Well, because we're justified
by the faith of Christ. Not by the works of the law.
Even we have believed in Jesus that we might be justified by
the faith of Christ. Okay? And so understanding those
things, it's the substance of things hoped for, the evidence
of things not seen. Verse six. But without faith,
it is impossible to please him. Now what did God the Father say
at the baptism of Jesus Christ? This is my beloved Son in whom
I am well pleased. You know what God saw? Faith. He saw the faith of Christ in
his dear Son. He told John, thus it behooves
us to fulfill all righteousness. Why, so that the father would
give his voice, saying, I'm pleased in this one. But without faith it is impossible
to please him. For he that cometh to God must
believe that he is, not has, not was, is. And that he's a rewarder of them
that diligently seek him. So without faith, it's impossible
to please him. So how important do you think
it is that you have the faith of Christ? Your whole eternity
pretty much hinges on that. What does God see when he looks
in you? I, the Lord, search the heart,
I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways
and according to the fruit of his doings. What's he searching
for? Let's go to Proverbs chapter
20. Proverbs 20 and verse 27 says this, the spirit of man
is the candle of the Lord. Now, a candle gives light, does
it not? A candle is something that you're
not necessarily illuminating the whole room, but if it's dark
and all you have is a candle, you walk around to things individually
to see them in detail. The spirit of man is the candle
of the Lord searching all the inward parts of the belly. What do you suppose it's searching
for? You have been given a spirit.
You have a spirit within you and it was given to you for one
purpose, to search. God uses that spirit that he
formed within you, we're gonna look at that verse in just a
second, that he formed within you to search you on the inward
parts. And he's searching for something
very specific. Go to Isaiah chapter 26. We were in Isaiah 26, this morning
we looked at 19, where it says, thy dead men shall live together
with my dead body, shall they arise. But look at verse nine. It says, with my soul have I desired
thee in the night, yea, with my, what? Spirit within me will
I seek thee early. For when thy judgments are in
the earth, the inhabitants of the world will learn righteousness. So the spirit of man is the candle
of the Lord, searching all the inward parts of the belly. And
Isaiah 26.9 says that with my spirit within me will I seek
thee early. That spirit within you is given
to you to search. God is using that to search you
on the inward parts. He's looking for faith. He's
looking to find faith in you. We might look at it later on,
I don't know, but Jesus said, when the Son of Man cometh, will
he find faith on the earth? Is he gonna be able to find faith
anywhere? Faith that he recognizes as his? Man has a lot of faith. Man has a lot of faith, but it's not enough to save your
soul. You can put your faith all you
want in Jesus, but until you have the faith of Jesus, it's
gonna get you nowhere. Good question was asked Thursday
night with that woman with the issue of blood. came to Jesus,
and he told her, after he had stanched the flow and healed
her of her plagues, he said, woman, thy faith hath made thee
whole. And the question was asked, well,
that was her faith. And it was. Just like your faith,
if you had the size of a grain of mustard seed, you could move
a mountain. Her faith was enough to motivate
her to get to the feet of Jesus Christ. It was enough to put
her there, but it could do nothing to cleanse her of her plague.
That's why when she touched him, virtue went out of him. You get to the hem of Jesus. You get there. and you reach
out and you touch that hem, virtue's gonna go out. But let's look
at this again. Ecclesiastes 3.21, let's go there. Ecclesiastes is right after Proverbs
if you're having a hard time. Ecclesiastes 3 and verse 21. It says, who knoweth the spirit
of man that goeth upward and the spirit of the beast that
goeth downward to the earth? Now, doctrinally, as we look
at this verse, what we see is that, number one, animals do
have a spirit. They have no soul. They do have
a spirit, though. Why? Well, because they know
their creator. You look at Job, he says, go
ask the rocks, and you go ask the hills, and you go ask the
birds, and you go ask the beasts, and they'll tell you who their
creator is. They know. That's why I say,
there's many times I've said it, we are the only thing in
God's creation that willingly refuses to worship him. But even you yourself know your
creator. You know who that is. But who knoweth the spirit of
man that goeth upward? Zechariah 12. Let's go to Zechariah
12. I'm just gonna bounce around a little bit here. Just look
at a few things and let the word of God just kind of build on
itself. The easiest way to find Zechariah is to find Matthew
and go towards the front a couple of books. Zechariah 12 in verse one. So far tonight, what we've learned,
that eternal life is Jesus Christ, and he that believeth on him
shall not perish, but have eternal life. God gave a record of that
eternal life, and it's contained in 66 books. That life is in
his Son. This is the true God and eternal
life, 1 John 5, 20. Jesus Christ, the true God. And
we learned that without faith it is impossible to please him.
For he that cometh to God must first believe that he is, and
that he's a rewarder of them which diligently seek him. We learned that there is a spirit
within man, and the spirit of man is the candle of the Lord
searching all the inward parts of the belly, and it's looking
for that faith. It's looking for the faith of Christ, looking
for the evidence of faith. Where'd that spirit come from?
I alluded to it, this is a verse. Zechariah 12, one, the burden
of the word of the Lord for Israel, saith the Lord, which stretches
forth the heavens and lay at the foundations of the earth
and formeth the spirit of man within him. God formed that spirit
in you. He formed that in the womb. I
saw a video one time. And of course, you know, Abraham
Lincoln says you can trust everything you read on the internet. But
I saw a video one time and it had a, it was obviously a kind
of an X-ray type of thing. And it showed an egg that was
about to be fertilized. Okay, it was blown up microscope
type of situation. And once that egg, that human
egg was fertilized, there was actually a flash of light. And
that's not an isolated incident that they saw that, okay? Take it for what you will, but
the Bible says that God formed the spirit of man within him. And this is that true light which
lighteth every man that cometh into the world. The instant you were conceived,
God gave you a spirit to seek him. To show you you on the inward
parts. That's why that spirit's there.
Which really gives a whole lot more weight to that verse where
Paul says, glorify God in your body and your spirit, which are
God's. It's his and he gave it to you. He gave it to you to seek Him.
It's the whole purpose of it. Oh, but don't we let our spirit
just wander? What does your spirit do? Well,
it's that interpreter between the thoughts and meditations
of your heart and your mind, the opinions that you make. You
let vile affections rule, you let your heart deceive you and
lie to you, you let that wicked heart rise up within you, and
those, oh, that unclean spirit, it's gonna let those things fester
in your mind, and you're gonna form an opinion, and boy, you're
gonna act on that, and it's just gonna be wicked and vile, and
you are robbing God of the one thing He gave you that spirit
for, to seek Him and to glorify Him. You realize when God says it's
over, he takes that spirit from you. What can you do to retain
your own spirit? Listen, the flesh without the
spirit is dead, the body. I think it says the body without
the spirit is dead. So when God says it's over, he takes your
spirit from you, and it's done, and you can do nothing to retain
that spirit, nothing. So what are you doing with it
while he's giving you time? What are you seeking out? What
are you looking for? What are you so consumed with
that it's taking all your time away from seeking him? At best, I mean, the oldest person
that I ever knew was 105. Do you know what happened? The day that that person woke
up, 105 years old, got partway through the day, they died. And
then what was that 105 years? A vapor. It's here for a little
while, then it's gone. And yet he gave you a spirit
to be able to seek him. You even understand the mercy
in that? Brother Dale, do you understand the mercy that he
gave you a spirit to be able to seek him? And he gave you
a mind to be able to comprehend the uncomprehendable God. Let
alone that he gave you his word in your native tongue. Blessed be the name of the Lord. But all that is within me, bless
his holy name. Bless the Lord, O my soul, and
forget not all his benefits. You realize he gave you breath
and a spirit to be able to come here tonight and listen to the
Word of God. And through these stammering, stuttering lips,
be able to hear the wonderful majesty of the Son of God. Let's go to 1 Corinthians 2.
1 Corinthians 2. I'm gonna start at verse nine,
just because this is such an often misquoted, it's not misquoted,
it's quoted absolutely perfectly, but it's misapplied verse. And
I just love tagging in the antidote for bad doctrine, okay? Bad doctrine comes when you take
a verse and you don't let the Bible tell you what that verse
means. Okay, that's where you get bad doctrine from. I don't
care what man of God told you this he's wrong Look at this. As it is written, I hath not
seen nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man
the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. And then
they say, we don't even know the glories of heaven. We'll
not know the wonders of all that that we're gonna see and everything
that's gonna be there. We can't know that and we're
not gonna know it until we see it face to face. And boy, it
preaches good and my goodness, the amens resound about the glory
of heaven and what it's gonna be to be up in glory. But the
problem with that is God just knew the foolishness of man and
what we would do, so he put right after it. But God hath revealed
them unto us by his Spirit. Guess what, you already know.
If you've been born of God, you know what God has in store for
you because you've gotten a taste of that glory. You've been, you
had the whole Godhead move in. Jesus Christ, as I love how Pastor
Askwith put this, Jesus Christ leading an Israeli commando team,
kicking down the door of your heart and liberating you from
the chains of your own life. You were held hostage by your
sin. And Jesus Christ led that team in there. Holy Ghost paved the way, Father
drew you, all the Godhead. All the glory that he revealed
to us. But he does it by his spirit. Says, for the spirit
searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. Now, you
are, I'll say this dogmatically. And this is a hill I'm willing
to die on. You are not gonna find any deeper
truth looking at the Greek and Hebrew of a text. On the authority of the Word
of God, the secret things belong to God, the deep things of God
belong to His Spirit. And if you wanted the deeper
meaning out of your Bible, don't go to James Strong or Henry Thayer,
you go to the Holy Ghost of God. And you let him teach you. You
get alone with this King James Bible and let him search you
on the inward parts and stir you up on the inward parts and
you let him take you by the hand and lead you through these scriptures.
And he will teach you. He'll teach you depth of things
that you will never even fathom. You know how I know? Because
he just told you, he hath revealed them unto us by his spirit. But now look at this, verse 11,
the whole purpose of coming here. For what man knoweth the things
of a man save the spirit of man which is in him? Nobody knows in here what's in
my heart. The only one that does is God
and my own spirit. I don't know what you came in
here with tonight. I don't know what your intents are. I don't
know what your thoughts are. I don't know if you're building
up a case against me. I don't know if you've come in to learn.
I don't know these things. Brother David Threadgill, I don't
know what the purpose of you walking in this room here is
tonight. I know your character and I know you come to meet with
God, okay? But for the sake of this, what man knoweth the things
of a man save the spirit of man which is in him? I don't know
what your thoughts are. The only one that does is God
and your own spirit. If I want to know what's going
on on the inward parts of any of you in here, I don't need
to go to the one sitting next to you, I need to go to you and
ask you, okay, what's running through your head right now?
What are you thinking about? Theron, what are you thinking
about right now? What was the last thought that went through
your head? I want to know you on the inward parts, the spirit
of man within him, what's going on? Would you just look up? Okay, the Lord directed you to
look at that because he had something for you in that. I had no idea. I didn't know if he was searching
up a word, I didn't know if he was looking at the score of the
football game, I just didn't know. I had to go to him to find
out what was going on on the inside. Even so the things of God knoweth
no man but the Spirit of God. If you wanna know God, don't
go to man, go to God. And right now, he is searching
you on the inward parts and you're rising up against that. And you'll
make all sorts of excuses. You'll wonder, well, how can
anyone be saved? How do I find him? Where do I
find him at? Let me just make it very simple
for you. You find him right here. This
is where you find him. This is where you find his spirit.
This is where you find the mind of Christ. This is where you
find the mind of God. This is where you find the absolute
perfect will of God. Because God's not willing that
any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. In meekness,
instructing those that oppose themselves, if God, per adventure,
will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth.
Repentance is something that's given to you by God. And I'm
not even a Calvinist. It's given to you by God. You
know your belief, that's a work that God does. John 6, 29. This is the work of God that
you believe on him whom he hath sent. Faith cometh by hearing, hearing
by the word of God. And if the spirit of the man
is a candle of the Lord searching all the inward parts of the belly,
and without faith it is impossible to please him, and if eternal
life is in his son, Where do you think you're gonna
find that faith? In his word. Romans 10, 17 is so very clear
on that. So then faith cometh by hearing
and hearing by the word of God. Some of you in here tonight do
not have circumcised ears. I know of at least one that does. And it's a fresh circumcision. Thanks be to God. Can I tell you something? Even
though my thoughts are just kind of disjointed tonight, this doesn't
flow nice. I don't have an outline at all. This is just kind of all crammed
together and random thoughts put together. Do you know what
the Spirit of God does with something foolish like this? Uses it to
save them that believe. This isn't a dog and pony show,
this is no circus. This is the ministry of the word
of God. The reality of God in print being preached to you. Showing you, you on the inward
part, showing you why you have a spirit. It's for his glory. so you can worship him in spirit
and in truth, and so that he can search you on the inward
parts and look for faith, and so that he can lay these things
precept upon precept, line upon line, here a little, there a
little, so that you can know him and the deep things of God. So the spirit of man is the candle
of the Lord, and he's searching for faith. It isn't Luke 18,
eight that he says, you know, when the son of man cometh, shall
he find faith on the earth? That's what he's looking for.
He's looking for faith. The Holy Ghost is moving in and
out of the pews. He's searching you. He's stirring
you up. He's moving things around and
shuffling things. Rummaging around in there, looking
around all the junk and trying to find even an ounce of faith. You know what he's gonna find
in the froward heart? Zero faith. Because you're not inclined unto
the Lord, you're not looking at God. You may sit in this pew
week after week after week, never with the mind that I've come
to see Jesus Christ. Never with that mind. I've come
here to fulfill my religious duty, that's why I am here. But can I just tell you, when
you walk through these doors, you have an opportunity to see
the King of glory. in the preaching of the Word
of God. And it does not matter who is standing behind this pulpit,
whether it's myself, whether it's Brother Dale, whether it's
Brother Mike, whether it's Brother Theron, whether it's Brother Dale Morey,
whether it's Brother Peter Cornelius, does not matter. When this King
James Bible is opened, you have the chance to hear the voice
of God. You've been given that opportunity
tonight. Have you squandered it or have
you received instruction? Let's go to Proverbs 15. I like
Proverbs. Proverbs 15 in verse three. It says, the eyes of the Lord
are in every place, beholding the evil and the good. Now we
covered this a little bit ago as we were examining the eyes
of the Lord. And you notice that those eyes are spoken of as a
lamp elsewhere. These seven, as it says in Zechariah,
you go to Revelation, you see the candle before the Lord and
the lamps before the Lord, and it's the eyes of the Lord, and
it's the seven spirits of God, and all of these things before
the throne. Those eyes of the Lord are going
to and fro throughout all the earth. Do you know what they're
doing? They're searching for faith. They're beholding the evil and
the good, and they're searching for the faith of Christ. They're
looking to see if it's there. They're looking to see if there's
been a seed planted. They're looking to see what has
been received in that stony heart. They're looking to see if that
heart's been broken up at all since the last time it was visited.
Did you prepare your heart this week for the preaching? Or did
you come in here haphazard? Not a thought of it until you
walk in and, oh boy, but yeah, I should probably pray. Dangerously close to being wayside.
At best, you're so choked out by thorns. The cares of this
world, the deceitfulness of riches. Let me ask you this, how can
you believe who receive honor one from another and not the
honor that cometh from God only? How? You can't. You're looking to receive honor
from anyone but God. You will not believe. You cannot believe. That's why
it has to be him and him alone. Looking unto Jesus, the author
and finisher of our faith. But we see Jesus who was made
a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death. That
he, by the grace of God, may taste death for every man. Go
to the end of that verse a couple of times this morning, but there
it is in its entirety. Thank you, Lord. Bringing that
back around. The eyes of the Lord are in every
place beholding the evil and the good. Go to Zechariah 4. Again, I like Zechariah. The
more that I'm in Zechariah, the more I'm seeing Jesus, and it's
in places that I, I mean, there's some very clear places in Zechariah
that it is, oh, that's definitely Jesus Christ, and you know, you
go to Zechariah 3, and oh, he showed me Joshua the high priest
standing before the angel of the Lord and Satan standing at
his right hand to resist him. Oh, and then you find out that
man Joshua represents Jesus Christ. Yeah, let's look at that for
a second. And the Lord said unto Satan, the Lord rebuke thee, O Satan,
even the Lord that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee. Is this
not a brand plucked out of the fire? Is this not a brand plucked
out of the fire? Now, he continues, he says, now
Joshua was clothed with filthy garments and stood before the
angel, and the angel that spake unto those that stood by before
him, saying, take away the filthy garments from him, and unto him
he said, behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee,
and I will clothe thee with a change of raiment. Then said I, or then
I said, let them set a fair mitre upon his head. You know what
that fair mitre says on that head of the high priest? Holiness
unto the Lord. that he may bear the iniquity
of the holy things. He bear the sins of many, made
him to be sin for us who knew no sin, that we might be made
the righteousness of God in him. Somebody shout hallelujah for
that. I'm telling you, he hath laid
on him the iniquity of us all. And I am crucified with Christ.
Nevertheless, I live because he was that bird slain. And I
was that bird dipped in that blood and released. And I went
off into that open field, bearing the blood of Jesus Christ with
this sacrifice, this living sacrifice, my body. Hallelujah. Set a fair miter upon his head
so they set a fair miter upon his head and clothed him with
garments and the angel the Lord stood by and the angel Lord protested
unto Joshua saying thus saith the Lord of hosts if thou will
walk in my ways and if thou will keep my charge then thou shall
also judge my house and shall also keep my courts I will give
thee places to walk among these that stand by Here now Joshua
the high priest thou and thy fellows that sit before thee
for there men wondered at for behold I will bring forth my
servant the branch and For behold, the stone that I
have laid before Joshua, upon one stone shall be seven eyes.
Amen. And I will engrave the graving
thereof, saith the Lord of hosts, and I will remove the iniquity
of that land in one day. Now, who is this Joshua? Who
is this branch? Well, we know that that branch
is Jesus Christ, that rod, the stem of Jesse, that rod. We had a conversation beforehand,
and she gave me some things that she had typed out, and oh, it's
good. The Lord's given her some light on some stuff. Thank the
Lord for it. But in Zechariah 6, just continuing
in this thought, Verse nine, the word of the Lord
came unto me saying, take them of the captivity, even Haldai
of Tobiah and Jediah, which are come from Babylon, and come thou
the same day and go into the house of Josiah, the son of Zephaniah. Then take silver and gold and
make crowns and set them upon the head of Joshua, the son of
Josedek, the high priest. That same Joshua that stood in
filthy garments and there was a bran plucked from the fire,
Satan standing at his right hand to resist him look at verse 12
and Speak unto him saying and now this is what is being spoken
to Joshua Thus speaketh the Lord of hosts say behold the man whose
name is the branch Joshua the high priest is a picture
of Jesus Christ in that He is that brand plucked from the fire
And you go ahead and you try to explain that away all you
want, but that's in your Bible. The deep things of God. Right
now he's searching. Now, what I really wanted to
look at was Zechariah 4. We're pretty much there. Look
at verse 2. Now we'll start verse 1 and the
angel that talked with me came again and walked awaked me as
a man that is wakened out of a sleep and Said unto me what
seest thou when I said I have looked and behold a candlestick
all of gold with a bowl on the top of it and his seven lamps
thereon and seven pipes to the seven lamps Which are on the
top thereof now, you know what that lamp is You know what that
candlestick is You've been in Leviticus long enough searching
for Jesus Christ that you in an exodus and that that thing
that was had that lamps to give light over against it to to show
you the candlestick. It is Jesus Christ. That Holy
Ghost is burning in those lamps at flame, turning that oil up,
sending it a little brighter to show you just a little more
detail of that holy candlestick, all made of gold. And the two olive trees by it,
one on the right side of the bowl and the other on the left
side thereof. So I answered and spake to the angel that talked
with me, saying, what are these, my Lord? And the angel that talked
with me answered and said unto me, knowest thou not what these
be? And I said, no, my Lord. And he answered and spake unto
me, saying, this is the word of the Lord unto Zerubbabel,
saying, not by might nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the Lord
of hosts. Lowercase s, spirit. And the
Lord of hosts is speaking. It's Jesus Christ. Who art thou,
O great mountain, before Zerubbabel? Thou shalt become a plain, and
he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying,
Grace, grace, unto it. Moreover, the word of the Lord
came unto me, saying, The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation
of this house. His hands also shall finish it.
Author and finisher of our faith. And thou shalt know that the
Lord of hosts has sent me unto you, for who hath despised the
day of small things? For they shall rejoice and see
the plummet in the hand of Zerubbabel with those seven. They are the
eyes of the Lord, which run to and fro through the whole earth.
And there's more there, and I wanna get into it. I'm gonna get into
it, look at verse 11. Then answered I and said unto
him, what are these two olive trees by the right side of the
candlestick upon the left side thereof? And I answered again
and said unto him, what be these two olive branches, which run,
which through the two golden pipes empty the golden oil out
of themselves? And he answered and said, knowest
thou not what these be? And I said, no, my Lord. Then
he said, he, these are the two anointed ones that stand by the
Lord of the whole earth. The two anointed ones, what two
anointed ones? These that stand by the Lord
of the whole earth. These two things pumping oil
into those golden pipes to light that candlestick so that it'll
shed light over against it so that you can see the candlestick.
What is it that is giving light to that lamp to make it so you
can see Jesus Christ? We gotta go to Revelation 11
to see that. Oh yes. Oh yes, brother. Verse three, and I will give
power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand,
two hundred, and threescore days clothed in sackcloth. These are
the two olive trees, amen, and the two candlesticks
standing before the God of the earth. Pretty sure we just read
that in Zechariah. And if any man will hurt them,
fire proceeded out of their mouth and devour their enemies. If
any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed. These
have power to shut up the heaven that it rained not in the days
of their prophecy. Now who did that? Elijah. And have power to over waters
to turn them to blood and to smite the earth with all plagues
as often as they will. Who did that? Those are your
two prophets. Those are the two prophets that
are gonna be there. You don't need to wonder anymore, God told
you. You read commentary after commentary and you're never gonna
see that. You go to any Bible college across this world and
you're never gonna see that. But guess what? The deep things
are with God. Now we have Elijah who was a
prophet, we have Moses. What does the Bible say about
Moses? The law came by Moses. So what do we have? We have the law and the prophets. Two witnesses pumping oil into
that lamp to show you Jesus Christ. Friends, that's why you need
a whole Bible. Friends, that's why you need a perfect Bible.
Because God wants you to see the fullness of his dear son,
Jesus Christ, the righteous. He wants you to see him in the
volume of the book. He wants you to see him high
and lifted up. He wants you to see that spirit
of prophecy in all of his prophets, which is the faith of Jesus.
He wants you to see the sufferings of Christ and the glory that
should follow. He wants you to see in all the law and all the
prophets and the Psalms, all the things concerning him. He
wants you to see Christ of the Old Testament. And so what did he do? He gave
you a Bible. And he gave you a spirit to search. Do you believe that? Can you
believe that? You can. It's according to your will. You can
believe that. Ah, that's good enough, I think
we're done with that. You know, when the Holy Ghost is satisfied, when He is searching, you know,
the preaching of the Word of God is going on, and He's stirring
up things, and you're fighting to stay focused because all these
thoughts of your past just keep getting stirred up, and you just
can't focus on what's being spoken, and you're pushing that off,
and pushing that off, and pushing that off, and all of a sudden,
the Holy Ghost just grabs right hold of you, grabs your head,
points it down, and says, look at that. You can't get away from
it anymore. He shows you a dark corner of
your heart that you forgot was there. He shows you a dark corner of
your heart that you didn't wanna look at, because it was too black,
too vile, too wicked. No, Lord, I can't look at that.
That offends you, I can't look at that. He says, it offends
me, and we're looking at it. Then what he does is he takes
the law and the prophets. He takes the law of God, that schoolmaster
to bring us unto Christ. And he takes that thing and he
turns the oil up just a little bit more. All of a sudden that
light becomes blinding. All of a sudden you can see details
of that thing that he showed you that you forgot about and
you just, you're writhing in pain and agony over the thing.
And you just can't imagine that God is showing you this. Why
God, why are you showing me this? Says because that's hindering
your faith. That's hindering your belief That is the thing
I have ought against you and you're refusing to look at it.
I want to give you repentance on that I want to show you the
goodness of God in that out brother He even says I want to show you
that I can take that thing from you Does he take it You know how I know he takes
it Because I see this young lady
right here who can lift up holy hands without wrath and doubting. I see goodness and mercy personified. I see holiness within that results
in holiness without. I see a heart that once diviseth
mischief and wicked imaginations glorifying God. I can say that about her because
she's half me. Yes, she is the better half,
that goes without saying. He knows. He understands. Listen to this, though. All of
this goes on in preaching. The whole time the foolishness
of this preaching has been going on, this is what the Spirit of
God has been doing. He's digging. You know, my middle
son, Austin, he gets this from me, he likes to rummage. He wants,
when he gets a house, he wants an entire room full of drawers
with little knickknacks and doodads and the coolest little things
you can possibly find, just to look through the drawers. I love
to do that. That's what the Holy Ghost is
doing to your heart. He's getting in there, and he's moving around,
shucking around all that junk, clearing the way, pointing a
couple of things out to you. If you're smart, when he points
them out to you, you say, yes, Lord, that's me. You know what
happens when he does that? He gives you repentance on that,
and you hate it. You hate it. You hate that thing he showed
you, and you don't want it anymore, do you, Peter? Isn't it cool,
he changes your want to. Delight thyself also in the Lord
and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. He'll give you
whatever your heart desires because why, he purifies it by faith.
All of a sudden you desire the right things. He's a father that
delights in giving things to his children. If you being evil
know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more
shall the father give good things to them that ask him? You know
what that good thing is? Luke 11, 13 tells you, the Holy
Spirit, it's the only place, capital H, capital S is used.
One time. I believe it's connected with
adunction. Also only used one time. The Lord just put a verse in
my head, and we're gonna look at it, we're gonna be done. I'm not sure why we're going
here, but we're going here. Psalm 16. Before I read this, I wanna say,
I do believe that God just turned over a stone in someone's heart.
And this verse is for you. Whoever it was that he just did
that in, this one is for you. It's for one person in here tonight. Verse 11. that will show me the path of
life in thy presence is fullness of joy. Why don't you have joy? Because
you're not in his presence. Because if you were, there would
be fullness of joy. Whether things go right at the bank or not.
Whether things go right at the store or not. Whether things
go right at work or not. Whether things are going right
at home or not. In thy presence is fullness of joy. And at thy right hand, there
are pleasures forevermore. You understand that sin has pleasure
for a season. But at the right hand of God
is Jesus Christ, eternal life. And at thy right hand, there
are pleasures forevermore. And that's where we're ending
tonight. Theron, come on up here and lead us in a song and we'll
go home.
