08-Silence Is Golden?

49

It all depends. As we are told, there is ‘a time to keep silence,
and a time to spea ’ (Eccles. 3:7). And, of course, it needs
wisdom to distinguish the two. In this article, I want to address
when it is right to speak. To put it another way: when it is
culpable to remain silent. I have in mind one who is trying to set
out the doctrine of the gospel. In those circumstances, I assert
that what a teacher fails to say can be more important than what
he does say. I am not alone.
D.Martyn Lloyd-Jones:
We must... as about an man: ‘What then does he sa ?’ This
includes noting what he does not say; i.e., we must take note of
his consistent omissions.
