A Call to Iconoclasm
Series Heidelberg Catechism
473
Not are we to love and be devoted to the Lord alone, but we are to worship the Lord as He has prescribed in His word. We are not to invent ways to draw near to Him, exalt Him or have our understanding of Him informed. There is none like God in heaven or on earth, and there is no created image, either given to us by God, or developed by human hands or imagination that grants us better understanding of God's being or will than His own Word does. As God has made Himself known His Word we are to go there, for in the Word God still speaks and there we find Gospel, wisdom and the pattern for living holy lives. May we be a people of Word and not image.
