Series Fresh Encounters With Jesus
The Samaritans came from some of the Jews who intermarried with other Canaanites. They took parts of the Jewish religion and aspects of the Canaanite religion and created their faith. To the Jews, Samaritans are considered racially inferior and religious heretics. The existing barriers between the two make it impossible for the Jews to minister to their neighbors.
However, Jesus refuses to allow the existing barriers to hinder His mission. He has come to seek and save the lost, and the Samaritan woman fits the profile. She has come to draw water at noon because she is a moral outcast, even within her marginalized community. No wonder the Samaritan woman is stunned when Jesus speaks to her.
Here, we are all invited to encounter Jesus' ministering heart that reaches across racial barriers, cultural barriers. gender barriers, moral barriers, and religious barriers to connecting with those who thirst for lasting satisfaction. Jesus comes to each one of us, inviting us to a relationship that transforms our lives.
Through Jesus, God puts in us his fountain of life, filling our empty, parched lives with God's living water that continues to quench our deepest thirst.
