The life of Augustine of Hippo (AD 354-430) provides us with a fascinating window into some of the most important doctrinal disputes of the early church as well as an intimate picture of the power of personal belief in one of history’s greatest minds. Join us for this four week series on the life and thought of Augustine. Week one will provide a historical introduction to the world of the late Roman Empire and the biography of Augustine. Week two will cover Augustine’s response to Manichaeism, the ancient belief in the competing ultimate realities of good and evil. Week three will discuss Augustine’s contest with Pelagianism and the development of the doctrine of predestination. Week four will provide an overview of Augustine’s vision of politics and the role of the Christian in political and military life.
