Reformation 2015: Wycliffe and Tyndale
Series Reformation 2015
What would it be like if we could not read the Bible in our language? We would be forced to go to those who knew the language and they could tell us whatever they wanted to in order to control us. This is what was going on in the Catholic church before reformers like John Wycliffe and William Tyndale stepped up to help bring the Bible to the people in a language they understood. The central truth that all need to know is the gospel. God wants people to hear the gospel in a language that they understand. Jesus has purchased people from every tribe and nation. Wycliffe in 1382 produced the first New Testament manuscript. 1494 Tyndale was born. He was fluent in 8 languages. In 1525 he created the New Testament in English. Because of their sacrifices and the sacrifices of others, we are able to read the Bible for ourselves in a language that we understand.
