The Necessity of the New Birth - 05

The new birth is necessary because the entrance of sin into the world caused death to pass upon all men. (Rom. 5:12)

Being "dead in trespasses and sin" (Eph. 2:1) means that until a sinner is born again by the Holy Spirit, he cannot believe in Christ or repent of his sin.

He is UNFIT to know what is holy because sin has completely darkened his understanding.

He is UNWILLING to do anything that is holy because his will is dead in sin leaving him with no desire to come to Christ.

Because he is dead in sin, he is UNABLE to do anything holy. He not only has no desire to please God, but he has absolutely no power to please him.

Hence, "Ye MUST be born again."
