1 Corinthians 14:1-12
I. Preliminary Textual and Historical Considerations
A. The Gifts were given by God
1. God gives His church exactly what they need.
2. God is a God of order – and there is to be order in the church
B. The gifts could be Counterfeited or Misused.
1. Tongues could be fraudulent -- 12:1-3
2. Prophets could be in speaking from themselves -- 14:29-33
3. True prophets always spoke the Word of God as given by God – but – just as the Scriptures are prone to misinterpretation – the true words of a prophet could be misapplied.
C. The NT Prophets were Transitional.
