The Means of Grace

13

There was once a powerful general named Naaman who suffered from leprosy. God promised Naaman healing by washing in the Jordan river. But Naaman hated the idea; he failed to appreciate the connection between his need for healing and bathing in the Jordan. He nearly declined God's plan for healing.

It is possible for us to commit the same blunder. We want to be made whole. We want to experience God. We want to repent, believe, be saved and become sanctified. But we don't always recognize God's way for us to get there. That's like wanting to be healthy but dismissing exercise and a proper diet. Or hoping to save up money for the future without getting a job.

If God has told us how—or by what means—Christ saves his chosen ones and makes them more like himself then we ought to listen to and do what he says.
