Genesis chapter number 4 and
chapter number 5 this morning. Genesis chapter number 4 and
chapter number 5. After righteous Abel was killed
by his unrighteous and unrepentant brother Cain, we saw how the
complaining, bellyaching, and full of self-pity Cain moved
to dwell in the land of Nod. course means wondering. We saw he began family with his
wife. We talked about where he got
his wife last week because a lot of folks get hung up on stupid
questions. They don't like the answers to
them and they'll reject the faith if they don't get the answers
that they're expecting. Well, just because you didn't
get the answer that you expected, understand that it is the answer
that scripture gives and we need to accept God's word. So Cain
moves. Cain begins his family. So what
becomes of a society built on rebellion? Because that's what
Cain was living in, rebellion. He was living in rebellion against
the Lord God, and he was angrily defiant of the Lord's laws and
his sacrifices. What happens with a society that
is that way? Well, we're beginning to see
in our own land. People turn their heart away from God, turn
their heart away from God's Word. It's good for our society, not
one little bit. If you wonder why wickedness
is on the rise, and why we see the things that we see in our
day, it's because our society that we're living in now is built
on rebellion against the Lord God, His laws, and of course
His Son, Jesus Christ, who is the sacrifice. Now we're not
given the number of years that each lived, and I'm not going
to take the time to read through Cain's genealogy this morning. A bunch of words I would butcher
there anyway, the names, but we'll mention a couple here.
We're given a line of Cain's descendants. And we're not given
the number of years that they each lived like we are in chapter
number 5 with the righteous line of Seth. But Cain's descendants
are given to us now to Lamech and his sons. And Lamech was
the seventh from Adam in Cain's line, and Enoch was the seventh
from Adam in Seth's line. So it's possible that Lamech
and Enoch were contemporaries. Can't be dogmatic about that,
but it's possible. Just want you to understand that.
But what we do know about Lamech is that he altered the plan of
God. and was the first mentioned who
married two women. His family produced musical instruments,
his family produced implements to make life more enjoyable,
but in spite of what might have seemed to be an advancing and
prosperous and good life, evil was also advancing in his day. That can be seen in the fact
that Lamech felt like he deserved greater leniency than Cain in
any vengeance that might come against him because of a man
that he had killed in self-defense. We'll get to verse 23 and 24.
We'll read this. It says, And Lamech said unto
his wives, Ada and Zillah, Hear my voice, ye wives of Lamech.
Hearken unto my speech, for I have slain a man to my wounding and
a young man to my hurt. In other words, a self-defense
killing there. If Cain be avenged sevenfold,
truly Lamech seventy and sevenfold. And so we see that he thought
he deserved more than Cain and any vengeance that the family
might seek against him. But in strong contrast with the
godless line of Cain was the righteous line of Seth, first
mentioned here in verse 25 and 26 of chapter 4. So Zanadab knew
his wife again, and she bare a son and called his name Seth. For God, said she, hath appointed
me another seed instead of Abel, whom Cain slew. And to Seth,
to him also there was born a son, and he called his name Enos. Then began men to call upon the
name of the Lord. So we have the beginning of Seth's
righteous line, and the line from Seth, it was a line of faith. Eve saw Seth as a provision from
God according to her statement of faith. She saw that God had
given her this seed. So Cain became associated with
wandering. And Seth, of course, means appointed,
put, set, settled, or placed. He had a settled life. Amen? While Cain, as the head of apostasy,
is made a wanderer, Seth, from whom the promised seed would
come. Remember the seed back in Genesis
3.15 that God promised? Well, God was going to send it
through the godly line. And so now we move to chapter
number five, and in my scripture I have written at the top of
chapter number five, death chapter. Death chapter. That's because
one of the most prevalent phrases in this chapter is, and he died. You'll read it over and over,
and he died, and he died. Not only is the righteous line
of Seth listed from Adam to Noah and his son Shem, but there are
some lessons that we can learn from this chapter and that phrase,
and he died. Number one, God's word is true. God had told Adam, the day that
thou eatest thereof, thou shalt surely die. In other words, death
was going to be reality. It was surely going to come to
pass. Now even though it was hundreds of years later before
Adam lost his physical life, we know that he died spiritually
immediately and he had need of God doing something to reconcile
him. God's word is true. Number two,
our sin affects our children. We can't get away from that. Romans 5, 12, Wherefore, as by
one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin, and
so death passed upon all men. Generational, amen. It's going
to pass to your children, it's going to pass to your grandchildren,
You need God to do something for you, and you need God to
do something for them, and praise the Lord, he sent Jesus Christ,
even though our sin affects our children. And there, the third
thing, death passes to all men because of sin. The wages of
sin is death, but praise God, the gift of God's eternal life
through Jesus Christ, our Lord. We see the reality of Hebrews
9.27 here, and as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after
this, the judgment. Now some might rightly ask the
question, well what about what happened to Enoch? When you read
this chapter, the death chapter, you notice that one man does
not die. In fact, we read in Hebrews 11
verse number 5 that talks about this area of scripture. It says
that Enoch was translated that he should not see death. What
about, what about Enoch? What about Elijah? Remember the
story of Elijah, how he was called up into heaven in a whirlwind?
Yeah? I've had a few dreams when we
lived in Indiana. You've got whirlwinds up there
quite a bit. You have them around here too, but I had a couple
of dreams of being caught up in a whirlwind. It was just a dream is all mine
was, but Elijah was more than a dream. He got caught up by
a whirlwind into heaven. Now, that's in 2 Kings 2.11. Now some think that Enoch and
Elijah, because they didn't die, They quite possibly might be
the two witnesses in Revelation chapter 11. I'm not going to
turn over there and read that. But if you're interested, you
can read Revelation 11 verses 3 through 13. There are two witnesses
that are there who they preach for three and a half years and
nobody can touch them. Then all of a sudden their lives
are taken. And then they're caught back
up into heaven. So, anyway, is it Enoch and Elijah? We're not told. But what about
the saints that are alive at the rapture? You know, if a supporting
enemy wants to die, what about us? And I hope to be one of those,
amen? I know you probably do, too. You want to be caught up
in the clouds with the Lord, to meet the Lord in the air.
Let's take a look for a minute at 1 Corinthians chapter number
15. Hold your place there. We'll
be back to Genesis 5 here in just a little bit. But in 1 Corinthians
chapter number 15, of course, Paul is writing to the church
at Corinth about the matter of the resurrection. And with regard
to the resurrection, he talks about the resurrection of the
saints when the Lord comes back. The saints that are, especially
saints that are alive at the rapture, look at 1 Corinthians
15. In verse number 50, he says there, Now this I say, brethren,
that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, neither doth
corruption inherit incorruption. Behold, I show you a mystery.
We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed in a moment
in the twinkling of an eye. at the last trump, for the trumpet
shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and
we shall be changed, talking about those that are alive, amen,
for this corruptible must put on incorruption, this mortal
must put on immortality, So when this corruptible shall I put
on incorruption, and this mortal shall I put on immortality, then
shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, death
is swallowed up in victory. O death, where is thy sting?
O grave, where is thy victory? The sting of death is sin, and
the strength of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, which giveth
us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. And we say amen
to that, don't we? But when it talks about being
changed, it means talking about being made different. You can't
go into heaven like you are. I can't go into heaven like I
am. We know that death is a separation. Physical death is a separation
of the soul and spirit from the body. When a loved one dies,
we talk about it, they're really alive somewhere. We hope that
they're alive with the Lord, amen. We hope and pray that that
be the case, but what they did with Jesus while they were alive,
that determines that. But physical death, they're separated
from us, right? You don't get to interact with
your loved one anymore. Physical death is a separation
of the soul and spirit from the body. Spiritual death is a separation
of the soul and spirit from God. Now, the rapture could be said
to be a form of death in the sense that we will be separated
from this body of death And given a new body. It's going to be
changed in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye. We just read that.
It's not going to be like it is. That which is corruptible,
and this is definitely corruptible, it's going to put on incorruption.
And this is definitely mortal. You live long enough, you're
going to die. Well, we're going to put on immortality. We're
not going to die in that body. And so we'll be also separated
from this world and be at home with the Lord. So when you talk
about death being separation, it is a type of death, even though
we won't have the pain of death, amen? But let's go back to our
passage. I just wanted to mention Enoch
and Elijah and the saints at the rapture with regard to this
matter of It's appointed and the man wants to die, okay? Because
in reality, the scripture is true and that is a type of death,
of being separated from this life. But we see in Genesis 5,
and I'm not going to read all of the genealogy here. I want
to focus in on verse number 21, down through verse number Number 24. Look at verse 21. Enoch lived sixty and five years
and begat Methuselah. And Enoch walked with God after
he begat Methuselah three hundred years and begat sons and daughters. And all the days of Enoch were
three hundred, sixty, and five. He had a short life compared
to others that are in here when you read this. Enoch walked with
God and he was not for God took him. So Enoch is one of two people
mentioned in the book of Genesis who walked with God. The other
one we will see a little bit later when we just begin talking
about Noah and the flood. Noah walked with God as well
in Genesis chapter number 6 and verse number 9. However, I want
you to note that it does not say that Enoch walked with God
until after his first son Methuselah was born. Up to that point, he
was not walking with God. But after Methuselah was born,
he walked with God, began walking with God. In Hebrew language,
the name Methuselah literally means this. When he is dead,
it shall be sent. When he is dead, it shall be
sent. What will be sent? Well, why did he not walk with
God? I think the message he got when
he was supposed to name Methuselah this, I think God apparently
told him that when Methuselah died, the world was going to
be judged and destroyed by a terrible flood of waters that God would
sin. And Methuselah lived right up
to the point just before that took place. Is that why Methuselah
lived longer than any man in the history of the world? He
lived 969 years. That's a long time. I mean, you
just think about 969 years ago and what was going on in the
world then. That's a long time. But God was not willing that
any should perish and was giving sinful mankind as much time for
repentance as possible. But listen, it wasn't happening.
People were not repenting. People were not getting right
with God. People were getting more wicked as the days went
by. 1 Timothy 2.4 says that God would
have all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the
truth. Look at 2 Peter chapter number 3 with me. 2 Peter chapter
number 3. 2 Peter 3 talks about the days
that we live in, the days where there's a lot of scoffers. 2 Peter 3, look at verse number
1. And Peter says, the second epistle, beloved, I write unto
you in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance. It's a good thing to have our
minds stirred up, isn't it? It's a good thing to be reminded,
and I'm reminding you this morning. about some things. He says, verse
2, that ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before
by the holy prophets, and the commandment of us as the apostles
of the Lord and Savior, Knowing this first, that there shall
come in the last days, that's the days that we're living in,
in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, and saying,
where is the promise of his coming? For since the fathers fell asleep,
all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
We live in a day of scoffers. And we live in a day of folks
questioning, well, you know, you Bible thumpers, you think
that the Lord Jesus is going to come back and rapture you
out of here. Well, where is he at? And some people are falling
away from clinging on to that truth. They're saying, well,
maybe we got it wrong. Maybe the Lord's not going to
come back and take us out before the tribulation period. Maybe
the tribulation period's already on us. They look at all the stuff
that's going on in the world and they talk about the tribulation
that we see. Well, that's not the tribulation
period that we see. I believe the Lord's giving us
a taste just a taste of what it's going
to be like after we're out of here, on this earth. And the
scoffers are going to walk, and the scoffers are going to talk. They're going to walk after their
own lust, they're going to question the Word of God, but we stand
by God's Word. Look at verse 5. For this they
willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens
were of old and the earth standing out of the water and in the water.
They deny the fact of creation. They deny the flood that we'll
be seeing in a couple of weeks when we study Noah's life. It says in verse number six,
whereby the world that then was being overflowed with water perished.
They deny all that. But the heavens and the earth
which are now by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto
fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.
But beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day
is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as
one day. The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some
men count slackness, but is longsuffering to usward, not willing that any
should perish, but that all should come to repentance, and we'll
leave off reading there. We know that the Lord is long-suffering. Thank God. Aren't you glad God's
long-suffering? I'm glad because I didn't receive
the Lord the first time I heard the gospel. Did you? Some may have, but I didn't. I'm thankful for the long-suffering
of God. Enoch was the first recorded
preacher, and he preached on the coming judgment. In fact,
we read about that in the little book of Jude, right before the
book of Revelation. Jude 14 and 15 says, And Enoch,
also the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, talking about apostates,
saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousand of his saints
to execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are
ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have
ungodly committed, and all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners
have spoken against him. We say, is the Lord really going
to judge folks? He is. He is. And we say, even so come Lord
Jesus. So what does the Bible say? What
does it mean when it says that Enoch walked with God? Walking with God is the biblical
expression for having a living, active faith shown by having
fellowship with and obedience to God that results in divine
favor or grace. Hebrews 11.5 says that Enoch
pleased God. And in the next verse, Hebrews
11.6 tells us that without faith, it's impossible to please Him.
You can't please God without faith. So how does one walk with
God? We ask the question, what are
the essentials of walking with God? Number one, faith. is essential in walking with
God. Again, Hebrews 11, 6, without
faith it's impossible to please God. Faith, simply speaking,
is taking God at His word. We must believe what God says
about us and our sin, amen? You know, some people don't believe
that they're sinners. Some people believe they're okay just the
way they are. We're all sinners, and our sin is against God. Until
somebody sees themselves as a sinner, see their sin as being against
God, they're not going to get saved. They're not going to come
to the Lord. Another thing, we must believe
what God says about judgment. Our sin deserves judgment, and
God will judge sin. I'm glad that my sin was judged
in the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. And if you don't have the
Lord Jesus Christ bearing the judgment of your sin, you will
bear the judgment of your sin. We must believe what God says
about the Savior. God loves us and sent His Son
into the world to take the judgment of our sins. Praise God for that.
And we must believe what God says about godly living. You
know, after God saves us, did you know that He expects us to
live for Him? We're going to see more about
this in just a minute when we get further on in the message.
But faith is essential in walking with God. Obedience is essential
in walking with God. James 1.22 says, But be ye doers
of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. And then in James 2 verse number
26 says, For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith
without works is dead also. Listen. Without obedience, it's
not real faith. It's just a mental assent to
some facts. That's all you've got. You don't
really have faith. Well, I believe that Jesus lived
a long time ago, and I believe that He was killed, and I believe
that He arose from the grave. If you believe it in your heart,
it'll make a difference in your walk. It just would. Believing it in your head's not
gonna get you anywhere. Faith without obedience is not true
faith. Another thing we see here is
fellowship is essential in walking with God. And this is where I
wanna plant here for the rest of the message, if I might. Fellowship with God involves
God talking to man. I'm glad that God has given us
his word. That's how he speaks to us. through
His Word and through the Holy Spirit that He's given to indwell
the hearts of those that are saved. Understand, and I want
you to grab a hold of this concept, the Spirit will never leave you
contrary to the Word of God. See, the Holy Spirit is the one
that is the author of the book. And if you're saying, well, the
Spirit told me to do, I know the Bible says that, but the
Spirit told me to do this and so, uh-uh. Spirit's not going
to be contrary to himself. Fellowship with God involves
God talking to man, and God does that through His Word and His
Holy Spirit indwelling the believer. Fellowship with God requires
time. If you're going to have God speaking
to your heart, you know you've got to spend time in the Word
of God. You do. You have to spend time under
the preaching of God's Word. That's why you're here this morning.
I hope to have God speak to your heart through the message that
He gives the man of God that stands behind the pulpit. Fellowship with God requires
time. Fellowship with God requires attention. requires attention. Not only just being here, but
you've got to pay attention to what's being said. And you've
got to give attention to what's being said. And you've got to
be affected by it. Amen? That's giving attention.
Fellowship with God requires an open heart. Are you open to
what God wants to give you in your life? Fellowship with God
involves God talking to man. Second thing here, fellowship
with God involves talking to God. God talks to us through
His Word. How do we talk to Him? Through
prayer. We talk to Him through prayer.
Prayer requires time. We're not going to turn this
morning to these passages, but let me encourage you. I've given
you the address there. Daniel, in Daniel chapter 6,
verse 10 and 11, if you remember the story of how Daniel's associates
were trying to get to him, and the only thing they could find
to get Daniel with was with regard to his God. And he was one that
was faithful to pray. And he prayed three times a day.
Yeah, he did. And he was open about it. He
didn't have a problem with folks seeing him praying. David, in
Psalm 55 verse 17, said this. He said, Evening and morning
and at noon will I pray and cry aloud, and he shall hear my voice. Prayer requires time. Prayer
requires reverence and humility. I do want you to turn here. Just
flip back, if you're there in 2 Peter, flip back a few pages
until you get to the book of James, chapter number 4. James,
chapter number 4. And I want to pay attention to
verses 6 through 10 here. James 4, verse 6. It's talking about God here,
but He, God, giveth more grace. Wherefore He saith, God resisteth
the proud, but giveth grace unto, what? The humble. Submit yourselves,
therefore, to God. Resist the devil, and he will
flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will
draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners.
Purify your hearts, ye double-minded. Be afflicted, mourn, and weep.
Let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight
of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. Prayer requires reverence,
humility with God. You can see also in the book
of Daniel, Daniel chapter 9, I'm not going to turn there,
but a great prayer prayed by Daniel in his day, and prayed
according to what he saw in the book of Jeremiah. He was reading
the book of Jeremiah and he came to a realization of he was standing
on the verge of some prophecy being fulfilled in his day. God's
people were fixing to be out from under the 70 years of hardship
there at the hands of the Babylonians. God gave him that revelation
from reading the book of Jeremiah. Prayer requires reverence and
humility, and you see him there not demanding God, but you see
him humbly seeking God. Don't ever think that you can
go to God and demand something. That's the wrong attitude. We
go to God and we seek God's hand and we seek God's face. We seek
His will in our lives. Prayer requires purity. You're
there in James 4. Look at what it talks about,
our motives. James 4, verse number 1. From
which come wars and fighting among you? Come they not hence
even of your lusts that war in your members? Ye lust and have
not, ye kill and desire to have and cannot obtain. Ye fight and
war, yet ye have not because ye ask not. Notice verse 3. He
ask and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume
it upon your lust." That means wrong motive. You're not really
seeking God's hand, you're seeking what you deem as being best for
you. Prayer requires purity. Isaiah 59 verse 1 and 2 says,
Behold, the Lord's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save,
neither His ear heavy, that it cannot hear. But your iniquities
have separated between you and your God, and your sins have
hid His face from you, that He will not hear. Prayer requires
purity. Fellowship with God involves
God talking to man, involves talking to God in prayer. Fellowship
with God brings forth a walk with God. Okay, and this is where
I want to focus for the end of the message here, as we draw
this to a close. Fellowship with God brings forth
a walk with God. A walk in fellowship with someone
means you have to be walking in the same direction with them.
That's pretty simple, isn't it? My wife and I walked together
yesterday. We were out at the thing they
were having down at the city, the festival that they had. Well, in order to keep from losing
one another, we made sure that we were walking together. Got
a lot of folks out there. And a walk in fellowship means
you have to walk in the same direction with that person and
walk really in lockstep with them. What do I mean by lockstep?
We've all seen military marching, right? And they're all alike
in their marching. 2, 3, 4, and you know, some of
the foreign armies look a little strange in the way they march
compared to the way we march, but they're all in lockstep,
aren't they? They just are. To be in lockstep is to be in
perfect conformity or unison. How does the Bible describe one's
walk with God? Well, Amos 3 and verse 3 says,
Can two walk together except they be agreed? Can two walk
together so that they would agree? You've got to walk in agreement
with God. When you are walking with God,
you're going to walk in what the scripture says we need to
be walking in. And I've given you several things
here. Number one, walking in newness of life. Listen to Romans
six, verse four. Therefore we are buried with
him by baptism into death, that like as Christ was raised up
from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should
walk in newness of life. So when you're saved, you're
to walk in the newness that you are. God made you a new, a new
creature in Christ Jesus, and you're walking that newness of
life. We're walking good works. Ephesians 2 verse 10. We love
Ephesians 2 verse 8 and 9. For by grace are ye saved through
faith, and not out of yourselves. It is the gift of God, not of
works, lest any man should boast. But it doesn't stop there. Next
verse says, for we are his workmanship, God's workmanship, created in
Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained
that we should walk in them. You got God's grace in your life?
Praise God. Don't stop there. God wants you
walking in the good works that He has ordained before that you
walk in. We're to walk in the Spirit.
Galatians chapter number 5, walk in the Spirit and you will not
fulfill the lust of the flesh is what it tells us there and
it tells us the difference between walking in the things of the
flesh, the works of the flesh and what they bring forth in
our life and it's not a good list when you take a look at
it. But it compares that with walking in the Spirit and what
the fruit of the Spirit brings forth in our life. Love, joy,
peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance,
those things. Amen? We're to walk in the Spirit. Look at Ephesians 5. Ephesians
5 talks about walking in love here. Different things involved in
walking with God. Walking in newness of life, walking
in good works, walking in the Spirit, walking in love. Look
at verse number 1, Ephesians 5 verse 1. Be therefore followers
of God as dear children. That word followers is talking
about being an imitator. You see what God's doing, you
imitate what He's doing. It says there in verse 2, "...and
walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given
Himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling
savor." But fornication, and all uncleanness, or covetousness,
let it not be once named among you as becometh saints, neither
filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not convenient,
but rather giving of thanks. For this you know, that no whoremonger,
nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath
any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God. Let no
man deceive you with vain words, for because of these things cometh
the wrath of God upon the children of disobedience. Be not ye therefore
partakers with them. God has a right to tell us how
to walk. We're to walk in love. We're not to walk in darkness. Look at verse 8. For you were
sometimes darkness, but now are you light in the Lord. Walk as
children of light. Verse number 11 says, Have no
fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather
reprove them. I'll leave you to read the rest
of the verses there, verses 1 through 16. Part of that walk in love. We're to walk worthy of the Lord.
A few pages over to your right, you'll find the little book of
Colossians. Look at Colossians in chapter number 1. in verse
number 10, where Paul prays ten things. He had five things, or
five desires, we could say, that God has for His church. And he
prayed for those things. He prayed that in verse number
10, chapter 1, verse 10, that ye might walk worthy of the Lord
unto all pleasing. God wants us to walk a worthy
walk. being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the
knowledge of God. Look at chapter 2, verse number
6. Chapter 2, verse number 6. As ye have therefore received
Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in Him. How did we receive
Christ Jesus? By grace through faith. How are
we to walk? By grace through faith. Amen.
And it goes on to tell us, rooted and built up in Him, established
in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with
thanksgiving. Look at chapter number four,
chapter number four, verse number five. Walk in wisdom toward them
that are without, redeeming at the time. We're walking in wisdom.
That's a worthy walk, walking worthy of the Lord. Look at the
next book, 1 Thessalonians. You're right there. Look at 1
Thessalonians chapter number two. Look at verse number 11
and 12. Number two, verse 11 and 12,
and you know how we exhorted and comforted and charged every
one of you as the father doth his children, that ye would walk
worthy of God, who hath called you into his kingdom and glory. Walk worthy of the Lord. Amen.
Look at chapter 4, verse number 1. For the more then we beseech
you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus Christ, that
as you have received of us how you ought to walk and to please
God, so you would abound more and more, walking worthy of the
Lord. And then we're to walk in the
light. Walk in the light. And we know that the Apostle
John talked about this in 1 John 1, verse number 6. He says, If
we say we have fellowship with Him and walk in darkness, we
lie and do not the truth. But if we walk in the light,
as He is in the light, we have fellowship one with another.
And the blood of Jesus Christ, His Son, cleanses us from all
sin. We say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth
is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is
faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us
from all unrighteousness. And then 1 John 2 and verse number
6 says, He that saith he abideth in him, ought himself also so
to walk even as he walked. So let me ask this morning, how
is your walk? Are you walking with God? It
takes faith. Amen? It takes obedience. It
takes fellowship. God speaking to you through his
word, according to his spirit, and you speaking to God through
prayer, and those things, when you got faith and obedience and
fellowship, it brings forth a walk with God, walking in that newness
of life, walking in good works, in the spirit, in the love, worthy
of the Lord, and walking in the light. Let's make sure, believers,
that we're walking with God, as Enoch walked with God. Amen. He's a picture of the rapture,
him being called away. We're called to walk with God,
and the Lord's going to come back, take us home. We'll be
with Him. Amen. Let's pray. Father, I don't know the hearts
of anybody here today, but I do know that You do. And Lord, if
there's one here today that does not have that faith, that haven't
come to a saving faith that makes a change in their life. Help
them to find that saving faith this morning such that they become
born again and walk in that newness of life that You have given.
Lord, we just pray that those of us that are saved already,
Lord, we see the importance of walking with You. If we're not
walking as close to You as we should be, Lord, help us to draw
nigh to You. Because we read a while ago in
the book of James, if we draw nigh to You, You'll draw nigh
to us. A lot of the reason why folks
are not as close to the Lord as they ought to be is because
they're not drawing near to the Lord. Help us that are saved,
Lord, to draw near to You. so that you will draw near to
us in our walk. Help us to walk in lockstep with
you, we pray. Have your will in this invitation,
we pray. Amen.
