Abraham's Expectation of Life

124

What was Abraham thinking as he walked the three day journey to Moriah? He tells the 2 servants that he & Isaac will go & worship & return to them. Heb 11:17-19 reveals that he was expecting that God was able to raise Isaac from the dead. How did he entertain this expectation: a Lazarus-like resuscitation or did he have a hope of life in the resurrection, after death? Regardless, that faith in the God who raises the dead is qualitatively "resurrection faith" - the same order of faith that we are to exercise in the risen Lord Jesus. His words to the servants express the priority of life: "we will worship". It is hard to imagine a traumatic ordeal more psychologically distressing than Abraham's call to sacrifice Isaac - & yet he will worship. Let no trauma prevent you from giving God His worship. His words also express our hope thru life: "we will return to you". Abraham is walking into death - the death of Isaac & yet he has hope. Our God raises the dead. Let us obey Him & beleive His promises even when He calls us to walk thru death to follow Him.
