A Great Cloud of Witnesses

Here’s a great 'roll call of saints' from the Old Testament whose lives bear strong testimony to the reality of living by faith. Their lives don’t make any sense unless we realize that they trusted in the promises of a Living God. They all lived by invisible means of support taking God at His word. They were all caught up in some great unseen plan. They persevered because they saw Him who is invisible. ‘By faith’ was the explanation of their lives.

What they achieved, what they bore witness to, what they suffered, the battles they won were all based on the conviction of things that the world cannot see – that they could not see. What a remarkable thing – to live your whole life trusting in the unseen purpose and promise of an invisible God, and dying without receiving what had been promised. They did not see what we see and yet they were all commended for their faith. With such a great cloud of witnesses we have no excuse to cop out but instead every reason to persevere.
