Victorious Obedience

Few things stir the imagination like this account. Perhaps the Exodus occupies our thinking when we come to the Old Testament, or the sacrifice of Elijah on Mount Carmel. But the walls falling around the city of Jericho rates very high on the list of notable events and wonderful stories found in the Bible. As we hear this account, we must listen carefully for what God emphasizes. It is God who brings victory to Israel as they march outside the city of Jericho. All too easily, we approach our lives as if God is not near and God does not see. We must take seriously the teaching of God's presence with His people and the demands of His law.
