How do you know if you, or anyone else, is a true Christian? Paul warns us that there are many false ideas about Christianity, and so identifies for us the marks of the circumcision—those things which invariably attend a regenerate heart, found in the life of a man or woman alive in Christ. Here he gives us three things: true worship, true joy, and true confidence, all in marked contrast to the external and carnal forms of those who might imagine themselves religious but who do not know God in Christ. These are the marks of the circumcision, the indicators that we belong to Christ and are part of the new covenant community of believers.

We need to look at this joy in the light of what it means spiritually. Because carnal (worldly) joy which is temporal, depends on circumstances and feelings has a way of waning losing it's effects on the person. That which God gives is everlasting, and is not dependent on circumstances and feelings, and emotions. It can include these but the precept is larger.

Our Lord reveals the truth to his people. By the Spirit and the life of Christ given to the people of God they hear Christ's voice. Truth must be revealed. When it is revealed to the Sinner, truth reveals the kingdom of God. Truth reveals that Christ is the King of his kingdom. Truth reveals the purpose of Christ's coming. Truth reveals them that are born of God. And faith embraces this truth.
Verse by verse exposition through the book of 1 Thessalonians. (Sermon also includes the reading and exhortation from the Lord's Table liturgy) 5:23 "Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it."
The "world" that God commands us to be separated from is not the created things of this earth, but rather all that is under the influence and control of Satan and unregenerate human beings. This world system and all its means of influence over mankind is under the control of the devil. The only way to be a child of God is to forsake this present, evil world and become a citizen of God's kingdom. We then live as a pilgrims and strangers here. If we are a friend of this world the Bible tells us we are an enemy of God. If we love this world then the love of the Father is not in us. But "Whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world." So how we "fit in" and deal with the world around us is very accurate evidence of whether we are truly born again or not.
Who are in great danger from false teachers? 2Timothy 3:6–9 looks forward to the second serial reading of in morning public worship on the coming Lord's Day. In these four verses of Holy Scripture, the Holy Spirit teaches us that pastors must not only turn away from false teachers themselves but also protect the most vulnerable in their congregation.
The Gospel of the Kingdom of God and Heaven is of the absolute utmost value, first to the children of God and second to all of the world. Therefore, the men who preach and teach the Gospel must do so without a desire for an earthly reward, but rather desiring a heavenly reward. Nonetheless, those who receive the Gospel are to care for those who deliver it unto them, and this comes in the way of compensation with earthly things for spiritual things.
