Paul leaves Ephesus and returns to minister to the churches the Lord had used him and his missionary team to establish in Macedonia and Achaia.
PDF of sermon notes may be used by anyone desiring to do so.

Paul's ministry is expanding, not only in a new place (something we've gotten quite used to by this point) but also with new friends, new ministry patterns, new encouragement from the Lord, and a new judgment by the local proconsul in the church's favor — or at least, not in opposition to it. The Kingdom is continuing to rescue people from Satan's dominion, and it's consolidating its strength in so doing.
East Georgia Road Baptist - 1 Corinthians 16:13; 1 Corinthians 16:15
Bro. Robbie Mullinax brings us a special message on being addicted to the ministry. So many things people get addicted to in this life, but when God saves us, He imparts to us a holy desire for the Gospel and servitude!

In the early days of the church the movement now known as Christianity was known as The Way. Why did they call the movement "The Way"? In this lesson we answer that question. Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life, and no one comes to th4e Father except through Him. (John 14.6). Jesus also taught in the Sermon on the Mount, narrow is the way.
If you ever wondered about how believing in Jesus could be the only way in counter-distinction to all other ways, listen to this lesson!

An introduction to Paul's epistles to the Thessalonians

Romans 16:1 I commend unto you Phebe our sister, which is a servant of the church which is at Cenchrea: 2 That ye receive her in the Lord, as becometh saints, and that ye assist her in whatsoever business she hath need of you: for she hath been a succourer of many, and of myself also. 3 Greet Priscilla and Aquila my helpers in Christ Jesus: 4 Who have for my life laid down their own necks: unto whom not only I give thanks, but also all the churches of the Gentiles. 5 Likewise greet the church that is in their house. Salute my well-beloved Epaenetus, who is the firstfruits of Achaia unto Christ. 6 Greet Mary, who bestowed much labour on us. 7 Salute Andronicus and Junia, my kinsmen, and my fellow-prisoners, who are of note among the apostles, who also were in Christ before me. 8 Greet Amplias my beloved in the Lord. 9 Salute Urbane, our helper in Christ, and Stachys my beloved. 10 Salute Apelles approved in Christ. Salute them which are of Aristobulus' household. 11 Salute Herodion my kinsman. Greet them that be of the household of Narcissus, which are in the Lord. 12 Salute Tryphena and Tryphosa, who labour in the Lord. Salute the beloved Persis, which laboured much in the Lord. 13 Salute Rufus chosen in the Lord, and his mother and mine. 14 Salute Asyncritus, Phlegon, Hermas, Patrobas, Hermes, and the brethren which are with them. 15 Salute Philologus, and Julia, Nereus, and his sister, and Olympas, and all the saints which are with them. 16 Salute one another with an holy kiss. The churches of Christ salute you.

Romans 15:20 Yea, so have I strived to preach the gospel, not where Christ was named, lest I should build upon another man's foundation: 21 But as it is written, To whom he was not spoken of, they shall see: and they that have not heard shall understand. 22 For which cause also I have been much hindered from coming to you. 23 But now having no more place in these parts, and having a great desire these many years to come unto you; 24 Whensoever I take my journey into Spain, I will come to you: for I trust to see you in my journey, and to be brought on my way thitherward by you, if first I be somewhat filled with your company. 25 But now I go unto Jerusalem to minister unto the saints. 26 For it hath pleased them of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor saints which are at Jerusalem. 27 It hath pleased them verily; and their debtors they are. For if the Gentiles have been made partakers of their spiritual things, their duty is also to minister unto them in carnal things. 28 When therefore I have performed this, and have sealed to them this fruit, I will come by you into Spain. 29 And I am sure that, when I come unto you, I shall come in the fulness of the blessing of the gospel of Christ.

Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, and Timothy our brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints which are in all Achaia: 2 Grace be to you and peace from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. 3 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; 4 Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God. 5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also aboundeth by Christ. 6 And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and salvation, which is effectual in the enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and salvation. 7 And our hope of you is stedfast, knowing, that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation. 8 For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life: 9 But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead: 10 Who delivered us from so great a death, and doth deliver: in whom we trust that he will yet deliver us (2 Corinthians 1:1-10 ).

Grace Reformed Baptist Church - 2 Corinthians 1:5

Eager Avenue Grace Church - 1 Thessalonians 1:4-9
1 Thessalonians 1:4 Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God. 5 For our gospel came not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance; as ye know what manner of men we were among you for your sake. 6 And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost. 7 So that ye were ensamples to all that believe in Macedonia and Achaia. 8 For from you sounded out the word of the Lord not only in Macedonia and Achaia, but also in every place your faith to God-ward is spread abroad; so that we need not to speak any thing. 9 For they themselves shew of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;

In this passage we are first introduced to Paul's travel plans that would likely be the travel plan for the rest of his life. While he was staying in Asia, a disturbance arose because the local idol-making business was losing money due to the spread of the Way. The rioters formed a mob and flooded the amphitheater, but in the end cooler heads prevailed because of common grace. From this passage we see how the world is changed: the Gospel changes lives, and changed lives change other lives. While it is good and right to fight against social evil and injustices, the priority of the church must be on the Gospel that saves sinners from eternal hell. In the power of Christ, the church makes disciples of Jesus to the glory of God in the power of the Spirit. However, even while doing so, the church relies on the alien righteousness of Christ, who alone perfectly related to the powerful and the oppressed, the rich and poor alike in a sinless way.

As Paul was preaching and teaching in Macedonia, the Jews rose up and brought Paul to the judgment seat of Gallio, the proconsul. However, their charges were dismissed by Gallio in an unexpected turn of events. The anger of the mob was redirected towards Sosthenes, the ring leader of those Jews. Peace then followed Paul. In this narrative the conflict rose as quickly as it was dispelled by resolution. While from the human vantage point we do not always see resolution, in God's mind the resolution has always been secure. Moreover we see that Jesus' words prior had come true: "Do not be afraid any longer, but go on speaking and do not be silent; for I am with you, and no man will attack you in order to harm you." We are not to interpret God's Word in light of our circumstances. Rather, we are to interpret our circumstances in light of God's Word.
