God's Will for Our Life
Deuteronomy 10:12, 17 (NKJV) And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all His ways and to love Him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. For the Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality nor takes a bribe. He administers justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the stranger, giving him food and clothing.
We often hear someone say that they do not know what God's will is for their life. It's like they are floating around, drifting, in the sea of humanity, not knowing what to do. Yet, the Scriptures are very clear about what God desires of our lives. First and foremost we are to love Him; to hold Him in the highest esteem, to have an awesome respect for Him. This leads to obedience, serving Him in areas where His heart is, not where ours is. He has saved us to do the good deeds that we can only do through His power and resources. When we help someone in need, when we feed someone who is hungry, when we visit someone who is ill, when we clothe someone who is cold, we are serving our Lord. We do not need to be concerned about doing great and famous things; things that bring attention to ourselves, we only need to care for those around us who cannot help themselves. This is the service to God that brings us greater blessings than all the applause given to a great speaker, and all the recognition given to a great leader. The apostle James clearly teaches us:
James 1:26-27 (NKJV) If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one's religion is useless. Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.
